BUILDING KEEPS ON AT STEADY PACE Building In Indianapolis goes on in manner; people are nPiling houses and they have come to the conclusion that it is not wise to wait with the expectation of any great oost saving in the near future. The Important feature is to build well, using good materials and equipment, and seeing that the construction work is done by people who know their business, in order to maintain realty valuations and to cut down the cost of depreciation and upkeep. y “Houses that grow old before their

time.” said A. Coburn, president of the Michigan Lumber Company, 939 E. St. Clair St., "are houses that have been built poorly and of cheap materials. “They are probably out of plumb, the boards have pulled away from their nalings and the floors, no doubt, will creak and sag—these are the almost certain results of poor materials. Too many people, who are intending building a house, consider only the cost figure submitted and seem to pay little attention to just what kind of material was specified. The builder of a house, no matter whether it is a small cottage or a mansion-like affair, will save money In the end if he buys lumber of first class. Even greater than the monetary saving is the great and lasting satisfaction that comes with having a house built of the best materials that will age well and hold Its attractive appearance.”

HOUSE GUILDERS TURN TO DETAILS IN HOIS NOW | Beauty and Lasting Qualities Are Essentials, Says Paint Company, Never before in the history of house building find furnishing has the atten- ! tion been given to details that Is prevalent in this industry today. Materials are purchased and utilized not only with the idea of quality, but with the thought of their beauty as well. Paints and varnishes, both for exterior and interior work, receive infinitely more care now than formerly. According to W. E. Stelnberger, manager of the Hatfield Paint Company, 104 S. Meridian St., care is given in the selection of finishes in regard to color and to the fitness for the surface which they will cover. “Today there is a paint for every purpose and this paint is superior to any other paint not especially prepared for that specific purpose. The same thing is true when applied to vnrnlshes and stains. Much care should be accorded the proper application of paint; the surface sould be smooth when the paint !s applied and should be free from mold, scaly paint. “Paint and enamels are much more commonly used in interior finishing than they were formerly. There is a great advantage in this for the wood used in woodwork and interior trim can be of the softer, consequently less expensive, varieites. The woodwork is much more easily refinished when it is painted or enameled and also more easily cleaned. Paint can be applied comparatively cheaper and consequently can be done frequently. “We carry a full line of both exterior and Interior paints and finishing products, and also carry a full line of brushes. The brush should be carefully selected, for the beauty of the finished product depends in part on whether or not the right brush was used." Mrs. Waller, Indiana farm wife, heard a loud squeaking during the night, which immediately ceased when she turned up the light. After several repetitions she summoned courage to go into the next room, where she found her boy’s little pet turtle hanging on to a mouse’s Uind leg for dear life.

USE OF 11 BOX IS GREATER Brunswick Phonograph Built for Any Home, Lacking indeed is that home in which there is no provision for music. But fewer and fewer are the homes that come under this category, as the perfection of the phonograph has made it possible for the average per son of ordinary means to have within his own homo music by the best artists that the world affords. The fact that any kind of music may be played on a phonograph makes its appeal universal, whether a person wishes sacred, classical or dance music he may have it, and of the best at that, on a phonograph. W. J. Baker, manager of the Brunswick Shop, 124 N. Pennsylvania St., points out several features that have made this particular phonograph one of the most popular. “Its scientific construction, with the oval tone chamber constructed so as to allow a natural reproduction of the tone, does away with a mechanical sound. The Ultona needle attachment enables one to play any make record on this phonograph, a feature of considerable Importance when one considers how many machines play only the records put out by the same company that puts cut the machine* There is a type of Brunswick to fit every house: if the house is small or built in such a manner thar there seems to be one particular place in

VV, T Cannon, president, says the people are building very comfortable convenient homes as a rule, much more so than a decade ago. “We lend money on real estate In Marion County but lend on first mortgages only All real estate values must he fixed by the authorized ap praisers of the association and loans must not exceed 50 to 65 per cent, or possibly two-thirds of the appraised value of the ground and improvements —governed by the ground values and location of the property. BATH-A-OAY BIG JUNE FEATURE Capital Plumbing Company Has Fixtures. During these hot days there is nothing that affords more comfort In a home than an unfailing supply of hot water —to lie able to draw hot water from a faucet and to know that this supply Is endless Is In reality a convenience practically confined to our own country. Tho National Trade Extension Bureau has set apart June as "bath-a-day” month, stressing during these days the benefits that result from taking one bath a day. “There was a time,” said J. B. Gardner of the Capitol Plumbing Com pany, 33364 N. Capitol Ave., “when having enough hot water for all needs of all the members of the family at all times was Indeed a luxury. “In the days when most of the hot water was furnished by gas heaters that had to be lighted and permitted to stay lighted for half an hour or more, there was a lot of trouble and Inconvenience in waiting for hot w’ater. However, with the perfection of the automatic heater it Is only the work of a minute to have an tinending stream of piping hot water. “We carry a number of standardized automatic heaters that will give satisfaction in that they will furnish all the hot water necessary on a moment's notice. All that Is necessary is to turn on the hot water faucet and there will be plenty of water that Is hot enough for all household purposes. The automatic heater has also made possible a great saving In fuel necessary for the hot water supply."
