KLAN ISSUE MAY LEAD TO BREAK IN LOCALCHURCHES Christian Ministers Oppose Intrusion of Ku-Kiux — Institute Acts, The Indianapolis Christian Ministers Association was on record today as opposed to having the “Klan issue intruded Into the churches.” The Central Indiana Christian Institute also was on record opposing the attitude of the Christian ministers. declaring they “do not represent the sentiment of any considerable number of Christian preachers in Indianapolis, or, at most, only represent themselves.” Action of the ministers’ association followed action of the official board of the Englewood Christian Church demanding the resignation of the Rev, .Frank E. Davison, pastor of the church, because of his opposition to a recent meeting in the church, which he characterized as a Ku-Klux Klan affair. The meeting was called by the Rev. Melvin Thompson, vice president of the association, acting as president in the absence of the Rev. Joseph D. Armistead, president. Th'e Rev. Elvin Daniels, secretary of the association, said eighteen members were present and that there one dissenting vote on one section of the resolution. He said all the members of the association had been notified of the meeting, and that the session was as big as any session of the organization. He said there was nothing secret about the meeting, but that the names of the ministers present were not recorded. The Rev. C. H. Winders, secretary of the Indianapolis Church Federation, was present. The meeting of the Central Indiana Christian Institute was held at the Bethany Church of Christ, Quill and Minnesota Sts. B. W. Bass, 6537 Ashland Ave., president of the institute, said sixty-five persons voted for the resolution opposing the action of the Christian ministers and that there were no dissenting votes. The Rev. Mr- Daniels said the Christian ministers did not go on record as opposing the klan. but that they merely opposed its intrusion in£o the church. The resolution expressed the attitude that “individuals may have the right either to participate or to refuse to participate in klan activities.”
