MW DEFENDS ADMINISTRATION AT G.O.P. CONFERENCE State Editorial Confab at South Bend Will Close Saturday Evening, By Times Special SOUTH BEND, Ind., June B. Senator Simeon D. Fess of Ohio will address the Republican State KdltoAal Association at a banquet at the Oliver Hotel tonight. It is expected to be the largest meeting of the convention which opened Thursday. Visitors spent today touring and visiting Notre Dame University and St. Mary’s College. Governor McCray defended his administration at a meeting in the Tribune building Thursday night. He declared the administration has saved $12,000,000 for the taxpayers, because, he said. Indiana is spending only twothirds as much as the average State. Results Expected *'l believe the best Government is the best politics,” the Governor said. “It is our aim that ny this policy we may best serve Indiana and the Republican party. Briefly, you can expect these results from this administration. “Rigid economy, safely and sanely practiced. “Money spent only where necessary. "Forward-looking, broad - minded views in all matters of public concern. Watson Discusses Court “When this administration ends, the State will be on a sound financial basis, with practical and sensible economy practiced, with our State institutions in the best condition they have ever been with our schools and entire educational system vastly improved, and with a highway system stretching throughout Indiana.” Differences of opinion within the Republican party over President Harding's world-court proposal can be eliminated by proper reservations. Senator James E. Watson told the convention. He defended the ing Administration and declared it 19 responsible for present prosperity. Clyde A. Walb, new State chairman, called for a united party. The need for a revival of moral prosperity to go with material prosperity was declared to be urgent by Frederick E. Schortemeler, secretary of the State committee. He made a plea for clean politics. The conference will close Saturday evening.
