law had been violated by the firm. “Long” accounts of customers were reported to amount to with “short” accounts running possibly to $2,000,000 and bank loans totaling about $2,500,000. Assistant District Attorney Wintrier and Unger have demanded of the receiver all books be held intact for prosecuting authorities. Jones and Baker insist they are solvent. Announcement of the receivership caused a great excitement and a panic of selling started. CHICAGO FORMS INVESTIGATED Forty Brokers Reporetd Unstable Following Crash in New York. Bu United Press . CHICAGO. June. I.—-A probe of forty Chicago brokerage firms reported to be unstable was started today by tSate's Attorney Robert E. Crowe following failure of Jones & Baker of New York, with a branch office
serving 1.500 customers. The Chicago Stock Exchange, the Investment Bankers’ Association and the Board of Trade are co-operating with Crowe. The investigation will include possibly “bucketing” and “blue sky” violations by the concerns under fire, Crowe said. ~~ ASK YOUR NEIGHBOR There is hardly a neighborhood in the United States where women cannot be found who have derived benefit from Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound. For nearly fifty years this botanic medicine has been overcoming some of the worst forms of female ills. As one woman has been benefited by Its use she has told others who have used it with the same good results; so the use of this great medicine has spread from shore to shore by the recommendation of those who have found it good. Therefore, ask your neighbor; let her tell you from experience the benefit which ailing women derive from its use.—Advertisement.
