WAS KIDNAPED tiger Woman Says Carson Forced Her to Flee Jail With Him, By Cnitcd Press HOUSTON, Texas, May 31.—Clara Phillips, "hammer murderess,” was speeding across Texas today en route to San Quentin penitentiary, praying that District Attorney Woolwine of Los Angeles would hear her startling story. “I don't want anew trial.” the “tiger woman” told friends and relatives when she arrived last night from New Orleans. “I don’t need one All I want is for Mr. Woolwine to grant me a hearing and listen to my story. “I did not escape from the Los Angeles county jail—l was kidnaped,” the slayer of Alberta Meadows protested. “I can prove to the entire satisfaction of Mr. Woolwine I was kidnaped." Jesse Carson, who was arrested with Mrs. Phillips in Honduras, scaled the walls of Los Angeles jail and sawed the tare of her cell. Mrs. Phillips claimed. Carson pressed a revolver to her breast and demanded that she leave with him, Mrs. Phillips said. “It is the only way to right an injustice," Carson told her. according to the “tiger woman.” •JRDUE plans field MEETINGS IN STATE Results of Experiments to Be Passed on to Farmers. By Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind.. May 31.—Four field day meetings will be held at outlying fields and farms operated by the Purdue agricultural experiment station the first week In June. They are North Vernon. June 6; Bedford, June 7: Francisco, June 8; Worthington, June 9. Farmers from nearby counties will spend the day studying results of soil treatments on clover and wheat crops. Owing to the late season only little results will be apparent on this year's corn crop, but results of previous years will be given.
