CONSERVATIVES OF BRITAIN ME BALDWIN LEADER I / \ Premier Given Full Backing of Party to Meet Opposition, 3y United Press LONDON, May 2S. —Premier Stanley Baldwin was elected new leader of the conservative party at a meeting at the Hotel Cecil today. The meeting was held to solidify ,members of the party to full strength when Baldwin goes before the House of Commons to face his strongly increasing opposition. Political students speaking through the newspapers see his path fraught with perils. Dissatisfaction of the group, led by Austen Chamberlain, unmasking of the Liberals and Laborites who felt sympathy with Bonar Law because of the former premier’s throat affliction, and refrained from attacks, and the announcement of Lloyd George he will now drop personal considerations which caused him to deal gently with the government, are all combining to work against the new ministry.

NEW YORK LAW IS DEFSEDBY ALAN White Robers Scoff at Statute Requiring Filing Names, By United Press NEW YORK, May 2S.—Thousands of white robed melhbers of the KuKlux Klan following week-end meetings held all way across New York State from Niagara Fails to East Port, Long Island, stand today in defiance of the new State law, which compels filing with the secretary of State the roster of secret societies such as the Klan. Amid flaring red torches and before mysterious altars, draped with the American flag, Klansmen denounced the law and pledged themselves to obey the constitution of the Klan, declaring Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York State had signed his political death warrant as far as his presidential aspirations were concerned by supporting the State dictum directed at the Klan. Here’s One the Ad Club Hopes to Help

After a long and weary trek this Armenian child reached a relief station in the Bible lands with its mother, who carried in her arms a baby bom on the road and on her back another little one. Children like these require American condensed milk and the Advertising Club of Indianapolis is sponsoring an appeal for several carloads. If the club slogan, “A Can of Milk From Everybody,” should receive a 100 per cent response, the appeal would bring in about 346,000 cans, according to the report of the city directory publishers. The campaign will be pushed the week of June 11, immediately on the return of the club’s delegates from the advertising convention at Atlantic City.
