Movie and Stage Versions of “Girl of Golden West” to Compete Next Week

Cs- v '

By WALTER D. HICKMAN TWO VERSIONS of “The Girl of the Golden West" will be on view next week. Those who are for the spoken version may go to the Murat and see a noteworthy revival of this great melodrama as acted by George Somnes and Blanche Yurka and others of the Stuart Walker Comcany. Those who enjoy the silver screen may see this great success as acted by Sylvia Rreamer and Russell Simpson at the Circle. On Monday night. the Shriners will give one of the largest theater parties of the season at the Murat. Edward J. Gausepohl is chairman of the entertainment committee and he promises many stunts between acts. After the show there will he dancing. On Sunday afternoon at the Circle, the members of the Walker company are invited to visit the Circle to see the screen version of the Belsaco success. Entertaining Hill A on View at Palace Youth, beauty, music and pep sea- ! ture the program at the Palace last half of the week. Bob Carlton and Julie Ballew with some new and some not sc n°w “blues” come near stopping the show. Miss Ballew is little, pretty, has bobbed hair and a baby voice. She puts her songs, some of them writ ten by Carlton, who plays the- piano and sings, over in such a way that the audience doesn't want to let her quit. One can't blame the audience.
