BRYAN AND HAYS MEET EACH OTHER IN CHURCH WORK Political Leaders Exchange Compliments at Conference Here. Will ,H. Hays, former Postmaster General, \ and now a commissioner to the Prertbyterian General Assembly, and William Jennings Bryan occupied the same' platform Thursday at a public meeting held at Tomlinson Hall In Interest of a $15,000,000 pension fund for ministers. Hays spoke of Bryan as belonging to the "aristocracy of intelligence and Christian manhood of America.” Bryan praised Hays for his plan of ministerial relief. Hays made the chief address on ministerial relletf under the auspices of the board of ministerial relief. "We disease and cry from high and low places focr this and that readjust ment.” said Hays. "We spin theories and political economies: we cry for fuller freedom! cr more rigorous regulation, and in all the reaching for this or that, we nave managed and will manage to lift v-t higher and higher, bat the reconstruction and readjustment of our p*?ople made nrcessary by the advance of civilization, the right use of our increased prosperity, power and influence in the world can only be Insured if the spirit of Christianity is incarnated in our people through the worth and the preaching of the church: and our new and neces eary social adjustments must be in line with its teachings or they will not endure. "And yet while we plead for labor's remuneration and .capital s proper consideration and tjr the thousand and one more or ls>s necessary things, we ignore the continued pauperization of the preacher.” Bryan was chairman of the meeting.
