"Although I could get along with ten fewer men In the detective department, I need seventy-five more patrolmen to give proper protection,” Police Chief Herman Rikhoff was on record as saying today. The statement was made to a council committee which met Thursday night with members of the board of safety. Corporation Counsel Taylor K. Groninger. Controller Joseph L,. Hogue and other city officials to discuss on a general wage readjustment in the police department. Members of the council said they would recommend reduction in rank of a large number of officers and a general reorganization. Chief Rikhoff refused to make any recommendations. Councilman William E. stated that to have twenty-one policewomen was like throwing away $36,000 yearly, j Groninger pointed out that the council had power to limit ranking officers. •Other departments asked for general j creases. Controller Hogue stated that since the wage adjustment meetings had started, exceptionally high salaries had been asked for high officials, while it was the mayor’s intention to increase only wages of employes making less than $1,500. TRANSIT INTERESTS BUY WHEEL PLANT Red Ball Company Purchases Frankfort Factory. The Red Ball Transit Company operating a fleet of trucks in inter-city hauling, today announced purchase of the Stewart Wire Wheel Company's plant at Frankfort. Purchase price was not made public. The company intends to use the factory for manufacture and repair of its own trucks, officials said The company has headquarters at 803 chants Bank building. ROOMERS FLEE FLAMES fferupants of House Forced to Streets in Night Clothes. Roomers, clad in night attire were forced to the street early today when fire starting in a house at 215-217 W. Thirtieth St., caused damage of $1,500. Mrs. Sallie Campbell, colored, keeper of the rooming house, told police she did not know the origin. Half of the house is vacant.
