Cliy WILL BOOST WAGES OF LABOR j !0 TO 15PER CENT Conferences This Week Will Adjust Pay Scale for Municipal Employes. City employes. Including labor, working in the street commissioner's, city engineering and the street cleaning departments and the municipal asphalt plant for less than §1,500 a year are to be given a general wage increase ranging from 10 to 15 per cent. Heads of the above departments, a council committee and City Controller Joseph L. Hogue met Tuesday night to discuss wage adjustments. According to Hogue the committee agreed on the raise for the low-paid employes. Another conference is to be held tonight, where other departments under the board of works will be under consideration. Wages of police and firemen will be discussed Thursday and Friday. John L. Elliott, city engineer asked the committee to consider these increases: Melnottee, N. Bebee, senior assistant engineer, from '-$3,000 to §5,000 a year: assistant engineers William Li. Lacey and Charles A. Brown, from $2,400 to $4,000; junior assistants Charles Culley and Edward Docppers from $2,160 to $3,000 and chemical engineer Chambers IL Underwood, $3,400 to $5,000. Elliott declared the. city cannot retain high class employes unless salaries are raised. No decision orl these recommendations was reached. Hogue stated that it is expected that Mayor Shank’s recent recommendation of a 10 per cent wage increase for city employes receiving lees than $1,500 a year will he agreed upon for all city departments. STREET CAR IS STONED Four Men Held After Complaint of Conductor; Intoxication Alleged. Four men arrested early today at West and McCarty Sts. were alleged to have stoned a street car. Garnet Graves, 221 S. Illinois St., conductor of Stock Yards car, said that the men were drunk when they boarded the car, a,nd one of them struck him as they left. A brick was thrown through the car window, Graves said. The men slated are James Lamahan, 429 N. Arsenal Ave.; Harry Percey, 513 W. Henry St.; Emmett Griffith, 524 S. Senate Ave., and .Toe Sullivan, 824 S. Capitol Ave. They were charged with drunkenness and vagrancy. She kcame to Boston on a business trip and a message to her husband had failed to reach him.
