RECIPES YOU’LL WANT
Indianapolis housewives who have joined the Nation-wide white sugar boycott are seeking sugarless recipes to help fight the corner engineered by gamblers and thus force the price Sown. If you know any new recipes send them to the editor of the Indianapolis Times. Here are some favorites: Frosting for Cakes 1 cup brown sugar H cup water Whites 2 eggs % tablespoon lemon juice Pour sugar and water in saucepan, stir to prevent sugar from adhering to saucepan: heat gradually to boiling point, and boil without stirring until syrup will thread when dropped from tip of spoon or tines of silver fork. Pour syrup gradually on beaten whites of eggs, beating mixture constantly. and continue beating until of right consistency to spread: then add flavoring and pour over cake, spreading evenly with back of spoon. Crease as soon as firm. Rolled Fruit Candy t pound dates. 2-3 cup raisins *4 pound nut meats 2 tablespoons orange juice Wash fruit, stone the dates, and put fruit with nuts through a meat •hopper Blend thoroughly with range juice. Let stand for twenty'our hours. Mold into shape. Shapes be rolled in a little brown sugar >r grated cocoanut. Stuffed Prunes Select sweet prunes. Soak over night. Dry. open carefully, remove stones, and stuff with chopped raisins and nuts. Roll in brown sugar. Gingerbread 1 cup molasses l cup sour milk 8 1-3 cups flour l *ll teaspoons soda l teaspoons ginger % teaspoon salt 44 cup melted butter Mix the soda with sour milk and add to molasses. Sift together remaining dry ingredients. combine mixtures, add butter, and beat vigorously. Pour into buttered shallowpan. and bake twenty-five minutes in a moderate oven. Honey and Nut Sandwiches Mix honey with pecan meats or tlrr.ends minced, ar.d make into sandwiches with small baking powder siscuits.
