DEATH SUMMONS MRS. THOMPSON Widow of ex-Postmaster to Be Buried Saturday. Mrs. Mary E. Thompson, 78, who tlie3 Thursday at her residence, 211 E. Fifteenth St., will be buried Saturday 3 p. m. at Crown Hill cemetery. Mrs. Thompson had been ill two years. She va3 the widow of Edward P. Thompson, former postmaster of Indianapolis. Services will be held at the home at 2:30 p. m. Saturday by the Rev. O. W. Flfer, pastor of the Central Avenue M. E. Church, of which Mrs. Thompson was a member. Mrs. Thompson was born In "Warsaw, Ind. She was the daughter of Billy "Williams, Congressman from the Thirteenth Indiana district and later United States minister to Uruguay and Paraguay. She was married May 23, 1366, and moved to Indianapolis. She lived three years in Havana, Cuba, when Mr. Thompson was the first postmaster from the United States stationed there. Surviving her are three daughters. Miss Caroline Thompson and Mrs. Blanche Maguire of Indianapolis, and Miss Mary W. Thompson of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles H. Burkett of Evanston, 111., and Mrs. Joseph C. W if wall of Eondon, England. OPPOSE SALEOF WORKHOUSE SITE County Counciimen Object to Commissioners' Plans. Opposition to plans of the county j commissioners and the county Ruditor to sell twenty-one acres, the site of the : old workhouse at Twenty-First St. and j Northwestern Ave., and to buy land to build a colored Orphan's home and a . detention home was expressed today | by county councilmc-n. The council wall meet May 3 and 10 j to pass on ordinances prepared by the-: auditor to that effect. The council refused to meet as called April 5 because members said they did not know what was coming up. Economy was given as the reason for the opposition. Counciimen pointed out that existing buildings on the county property could be utilized for the homes, and that the county already owned he land.
