Witnesses were called today before the joint legislative committee investigating of the death of Martin TaberL North Dakota, youth in a Florida convict camp. The committee, before it met, extended an invitation to the Putnam Lumber Company, in whose camp Tabert died after a flogging, to send representatives to testify. The investigation will probably be extended to includi the entire convict leasing system of the State. Del., is made in dispatches from Connersville, quoting G. E. Snearhod or Chicago, acting controller of the Lexington. Shearhod says figures submitted to the court purporting to show assets and liabilities of the company would come nearer indicating the actual conditions. if reversed. The complaint scheduled liabilities of $3,470,000 and assets of $1,794,000. A meeting of creditors, representing 80 per cent of the merchandise liabilties of the concern, is said to in progress in New York City in the hope of reaching an amicable settlement of the company’s affairs. Shearhod is unable to understand action of the Jacques company in filing suit, since that concern had agreed to work with other creditors in the matter of directing the future policy of the Lexington, he said. Frank B. Ansted, president of the Lexington, declined to comment upon the unexpected suit when informed by wire at his hotel in New York.

Fifteen hundred descendants of Anneke Jans Bogardus and Pieter Claesen Wijkoff will meet here Saturday to perfect final plans toward settlement of the $1,100,000,000 estates in New York said by them to be their rightful property. The property has been in dispute 137 years, Thomas B. Wikhoff, secretary of the association of descendants, said today. Plans for the Wilbur Wright memorial services Sunday afternoon at which the Wright Memorial will be dedicated in Memorial Park, have been completed. A bronze memorial tablet is to be set on a twelve-ton boulder. A speakers’ stand has been erected near the boulder. Communications from the Wright 'Rviation field. Dayton, Ohio, announce a squadron of planes in battle formation will circle over the memorial and drop flowers in tribute to the celebrated inventor. The Beta Xi chapter of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity is sponsoring the movement. Many noted men are to be present at the services. Orville Wright, co-inventor of the airplane, and Miss Katherine Wright, their sister, are to witness the ceremonies. Dinner is to be served by the Keeslings, who are living on the old Wright homestead, northeast of Newcastle, for Orville Wright, his sister, >, and members of the committee in charge of the memorial.

Illegal use of olemargarine by hotels. restaurants and boarding houses will be investigated by the department of internal revenue, M. Bert Thur man. collector, announced today. Numerous complaints have been re ceived. Thurman said, that many eating places buy uncolored oleo margarine and color it themselves, without paying the manufacturer's tax of 10 cents a pound.
