April 13.—The House of Commons debated throughout the night and the session was still in full swing at noon today. might go on Indefinitely, the bill before the House was voted upon, passed its third reading and weary members dragged home to bed. Commons adjourned until Monday, with supporters of Bonar Law breathing easier. It was the big test of strength for Bonar Law’s government. The army and air force annual bill, subject of the debate, was relatively unimportant; any other subject would have done aa well; the government was determined to demonstrate that it stifl had a clear majority over all opposition in the house. The long session was comparatively peaceful, although in the night labor M. P.s sang “John Brown’s Body" loudly while votes were being taken. On each test vote the government won. About 10:30 this morning a labor member moved an amendment to tho army and air force bill substituting imprisonment for the death penalty now prescribed for army deserters. The Commons rejected the amendment by a vote of 175 to 103 after two hours’ debate. During the voting, the snores of two labor members resounded through the drowsy house. The sleepers awoke indignant when a Tory member demanded that the “corpses be removed.”

The government’s decision to give in to the demand of labor that the plans for aldfng ex-service men be modified resulted in restoring order in the house and the long session was not marked by the fierce antagonism that blazed up Wednesday. In the absence of Ramsay MacDonald, J. H. Thomas led the laborites. EX-LOCAL MAN IS NAMED BANK DEAD Herrod C, Newland President ofr’Cincinnati Company, Herrod C.
