CITY GIVEN FIVE ACRESFOR PARK Local Company Turns Over Land Valued at $35,000. The United States Envelope Company will give five acres of ground at Sherman Dr. and E. Washington St. to the city for a municipal playground. Charles O. Roemler, attorney for the company, has informed Mayor Shank the company will give the city two acres with a four-year lease at $1 a year on three additional acres. If the city accepts, jthe tract will be added to two acres north of the Pennsylvania railroad tracks, which were purchased by the city for SIO,OOO. Shank considers the gift of the company worth $35,060 . A lease will be prepared by the city and submitted to park commissioners Thursday. Work will be started im-, mediately to grade the ground and have the property ready to use this spring. A contest will be held among children who attend public school No. 64 to choose a name for the playground. COPS SEEK OWNER OF BOOZE IN CAR Auto Seized After Collision With Parked Machine. An automobile in which police say they found two bottles of "white mule” was held at police headquarters today while officers sought Dennis Hanrahan, who lives on Silver Ave. The automobile turned over after colliding with a car owned by Leland W. Winstead, 2030 Jones St., parked in the 1200 block on Morris St., Tuesday night. Patrolmen Woolen and Fox charged Dennis Lyons, 234 Linden St., who was in the overturned car, with drunkenness. He said Hanrahan drove the car and left after the accident. MYSTERY FIGURES IN BROTAL ATTACK Herschel Ax Knocked Unconscious by Unknown Man. Mystery surrounds a brutal attack on Herschel Ax, 2410 Gale St. Ax was walking west on Twentyfifth St., Tuesday night, between Station and Gale Sts., when he was slugged. Ax fell unconscious. B. B. Quillin, 2213 Station St., heard a blow and saw a tall slim man run through an alley. Ax told police he had no trouble with any one. No attempt wa3 male to rob Ax. Purse Taken in Market A purse containing SSO and a fountain pen, belonging to Mrs. Joseph Xautsky, 46 N. Sheridan Ave., was •tolen from a city market stand Tuesiflar. she told detectives.
