WAR WEAKENS MORALS, BRITISH FEMINIST SAYS Writer Talks on Europe's 20,000,000 Women Doomed as Spinsters, By MILTON BRONNER XEA. Staff Correspondent LONDON, April 6. —“Anybody can see the position of women has grown worse since the war. Men are bad enough off—women are worse. There are more of them. And they must fight prejudices, customs, laws, discriminations. Things will get worse before they get better.” That comes from Cicely Hamilton, writer, speaker, actress—and one of the most prominent feminists in Europe. “In England the after-the-war blow has hit women less hard despite the fact that we have two million more women than men,” she says. "We have been used to this. For decades our men have migrated all over the world. “Middle class families’ parents recognized the great probability their girls might not marry. So they educated them to take care of themselves by useful work. “If they don’t they will put a terrible weapon in the huiids of big employers. Because once you get the trades unions definitely aligned against women drawing the same pay as men. you are on the way to destroy men’s labor unions. "Morals of the after-the-war woman have been definitely lowered. This began during the war. Women who were going to stay at home felt they owed every thing to the men who were going Into the trenches—and they gave. “Unfortunately the war also created a huge class of women for whom there was only one word in the dictionary—pleasure.
