WITHDRAWAL OF l® MAY SUB FIGHTIN PARTY A factional fight such as occurred over the appointment of Harry S. New as postmaster general may result in event of the resignation of Lawrence E. Lyons as Republican State chairman, some Republican party workers admitted today. The feeling was growing that Lyons would resign as a result of the publication of the fact he joined the Ku-Klux Klan and then resigned. publicly denouncing the Klan. The fight for control of the party in Indiana, smouldering for some time, already Is beginning to flame up. Lyons has been considered ’he head of the local James E. Watson faction. He actively opposed the appointment of New. Republican leaders expect an effort on the part of Watson and hie friends, including Governor McCray, to continue control of tho party. New's Friends Not Idle On the other hand, friends of New will not sit quietly by and see Watson continue as the head of the party. It was said. New has a powerful following in the Federal building, w here many of the employes are New appolntes, and hs some strength In the State committee, which was divided over the New appointment to the Cabinet. There has been some talk of making Clyde A. Walb. Twelfth district chairman, and vice chairman of the central committee, the new State chairman. It was pointed out this would be the natural line of succession. Walb, however, is understood not to be accetpable to the Watson faction.
