From point of attendance and also interesting battles the 1923 tourney must go down in history of the I. 11. S. A. A. as an unqualified success. Before the meet the management was somewhat worried as to the attendance. NEW CITY BALL l LEAGUE PLANNED 4 industrial Factories Represented; 2 Teams Needed. Plans are under way for the forming of anew baseball league for the coming season. From present indications this league will be one of the strongest leagues to enter the field this year. The teams that have signified their intentions of joining this new league represent some of the largest industrial factories in Die city. The ITest-o-lite Company, VUieelerSchebler, Beech Grove Railroad Shops and the Pennsylvania Railroad have their ball teams all lined up and are ready to start the season. Some of the best baseball talent In the city will be found working in these factories. The league would like to hear from two more fast teams to enter the new league. To date the league has not been named but will be given a mune at the first meeting which will be held at the Eni-Koe store next Thursday night. Nothing was too good for the boys who went down to Indianapolis and galloped home with the Indiana high school basketball championship. The whole community did hon- i or to the team. The celebration was equal to that of Armistice day. Farmers from mile3 around flivvered into town and business was at a standstill. This city and Knox County went wild with joy when the word w’as flashed over special wires that Vincennes had defeated Muncie in the final game of the State high school basketball tournament at Indianapolis and by virtue of the victory won the Indiana championship. A band and a delegation of business men met the team and Coach John Adams when they arrived back in town yesterday. The team had gone through the entire gasket-ball season with only one defeat and plowed through the cream of 595 other teams in the Indianapolis tournament without lowering its colors.

At the close of the thirteenth annual basket ball tourney of the Indiana High School Athletic Association Vincennes won the champloni hip over 596 other teams that started it the district tourneys two weeks >gn. The 1923 championship games brought VINCENNES FIVE SHOWS CLASS IN WINNING CROWN Great Anderson Team Fails Against Alices’ Sharpshooting Attack, Vincennes—State champion—those are sweet words to a certain southern Indiana city today. But they hold the blasted hopes of numerous other communities of Hooslerdom. Many think that Vincennes In reality won ‘.be meet by defeating Anderson In the second of the semi final games. The game at 3 p. m., Saturday, was a wonderful contest, with Anderson only two points behind when the gun was fired. It was another disappointment for the Anderson fans who have seen their big strong teams come to the tourney year after year only to be defeated In heart-breaking battles. Not that Vincennes did not deserve to win that Anderson game—if any team deserved a victory the Alices did that one. It was by a wonderful spurt near the close of the game that Anderson was able to pull up Into the running. Those who saw Vincennes give mediocre performances In the first two games as far as getting baskets was concerned failed to note the wonderful defense that was always present. Even when the southern team looked worst on the attack the defense was airtight. The team sepmed to have some difficulty throughout the meet, in finding tho net. This was exactly opposite to their performance throughout the season. Wolfe and Harper are marvelously accurate from tho coiners of the court, but at tho Coliseum only occasionally showed flashes of what they did all season. Vincennes won the tourney because robody could stop Jones coming down the floor and passing to his mates or getting the bail off the back board and because opponents did not take advantage of the opportunity to score when Jones was dow'n tho floor. Because of the superb defense of the coire team and because, despite a Plight reversal In form, the Vincennes team has the best sharpshooters tn Indiana on the angle shots from tho corners of the court. Industrial League Plans The Crescent Paper Company, organizers of the Industrial League for the 1923 season, would like to hear from clubs who would like to get into this league. From among these It is possible to select players who deserve to be men Honed on the mythical first, second and third All State Basket ball teams. Forwards Stand Out Two forwards stood out far above all others. These were Robinson of Anderson and Wolfe of Vincennes. Benzol of Bedford; Dickerson of Crawfordsvllle; Thornburg of Muncie; Harper of Vincennes, deserve positions on the second and third teams. Honor able mention is given Nixon of Richmond; L. Stokes of Warsaw; Huffet of Columbus, and Oliver of Frank fort. Beckner of Muncte was by far the best center on any team that reached the Indianapolis tourney. The selection of the other centers brings a close de clsion among several players. Jarrell of Martinsville is give second team honors, and Nyikos of South Bend Is named on the third team. Jones of Bedford; Sauter of Richmond, am! Allega of Vincennos are given honorable mention. .lottos and Jackson Two back guards stood out far | ahead of others in the tourney. These wore'Jones of Vincennos and Jackson of Anderson. Jones, tho Vincennes giant, was ln a largo part responsible for his toa.ni winning the champion ship. Jackson, while not so large, proved to boa shifty, clover player. Hall of Columbus was tho third host back guard. Honorable mention is givon Cummings of Crawfordsville. and Raisor of Muncte. The floor guards lacked the class of the back guards. Kennedy of Rich mond was probably the most finished player and Is named on the first allState team. His passing and ability to feed tho ball to the forwards, combined with breaking up of opponents’ dribbling and passes stamps him as the best floor guard In the State. He committed only one foul in two hardfought games. Stone of Anderson is given second team honors, and Mayo of Vincennes is named on the third team. Skinner of Bedford, Bebot of Muncie and King of Franklin are given honorable mention. Mattox of Richmond, said to be one of the best back guards !n the State, was handicapped because of an Injury to his shoulder suffered ln the regional tourney.

He said queer noises worked on his imagination. Idle workmen are not seen on the streets of Bogalusa. The mills operate day and night shifts. The sawmi!! works ten-hour shifts both day ar„i night and the paper mill works eleven hours day and thirteen hours night. When you ask for work in Bogalusa you are not disappointed. Mr. E. Brown has no he-male weakness at the bat. He is hitting his favorite line drives again. None of the athletes draw away from the plate during meal time. I NDUE BATTLE CAUSES COBENT OVER EUROPE French Papers Ignore Decision Georges Believes Siki Won the Fight, By United .Veto* PARIS, March 19. —Instead of being cheered by the defeat of Battling Siki in Dublin and Siki’s loss of his titles to Mike McTigue, Georges Carpentier is rather inclined to lament the decision because he doesn’t think McTigue really won. “I suppose,” said Carpentier to a representative of Le Journal, “that I should be elated by the decision. But I am not. Asa sportman I am unable to comprehend the decision.
