‘PET’ MEASURE IS KILLED Amendment Causes Democrats to Defeat Soldiers’ Orphans’ BUI. A pet measure of Senate Republicans was indefinitely postponed in the Senate late Monday when Democrats discovered a "rider” amendment to Representative Harrison’s House bill standardizing the course of study in the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphans’ Home at Knightstown. Both the bill and amendment were killed on motion of Senator Chambers. The amendment provided that Civil 'War veterans could not serve as trustees of the home. At present, they are the only ones eligible. Provisions of the amendment originally were in another bIU of Representative Harrison, but this bill also was klUed In the Senate.
