SENATE VOTES TO KEEP STATE EPEE FRGMCENSORSHIP Movie Measure Dies With Only Four Ballots in Its Favor, Indiana will have no movie censorship, at least before the next session of the General Assembly. By a vote of 40 to 4, the Senate indefinitely postponed the censorship measure when It was brought oat on second reading late Monday. Only two Senators spoke for the bill. A dozen Senators were clamoring to speak against It when debate was cut off by Senator Sweeney’s motion for the previous question. “Most of the people for censorship are not patrons of movies and are bent on killing this amusement.” said Senator Van Orman, who introduced the motion to postpone the bill. “Censorship is un-American and has failed wherever tried,” Van Orman: added. Senator Dunn, chairman of the Committee on Public Morals, and Senator Steele, author of the bill, j spoke briefly for the measure. Steele said he "hardly expected the bill to pass, but wanted to show the indus try that the people were thinking of; censorship,” SALE OF SWAMPS UP TOGOVERNOR Lake County Land Measure Passes Senate, Compulsory sale* of Lake County swamp lands owned by the State to the highest bidder, today was up to Governor McCray. After considerable debate the Senate passed. 42-5, Representative Love’s House bill authorizing the auditor of State to sell 282 acres. The bids must be higher than the appraised j value of the land, the bill p.' vi ies. Senator Hodges sal-1 the JonesLaughlin Steel Company of Pittsburgh wanted the site for a $50,000,000 plant. Failure to pass the bill would lose this factory for Indiana, he Bald. The swamp land Is under water, and the company offers S3OO an acre for It. At present, Senator Ncjdl said the land was good only “to raise mosquitoea.” Senator Henley said the factory would mean $135,000 a year to the State in taxes. • Senator Cravens charged questionable proceedings In the sale seemed evident when he said similar land near the State swamps sold at $4,000 an acre to Henry Ford.
