Glenn a collett, the young women’s champion golfer of America, will not be among those present when the American invaders tee off with the daughters of Britain in England, it is reported in golfing circles. It is said the parents of Miss Collett, who live in Providence, R. 1., prefer that she remain in this country for the time being. Miss Alexa Stirling, former champion; Miss Marion Hollins, also a former holder of the title, and Miss Kdith Cummings are expected to carry the American colors. Miss Collett's withdrawal from the team Is no light blow to American hopes, however, as she was regarded as the most likely American in a match with Miss Joyce We the red. the English gifl who will defend the title. -|. -I- -|. Vincennes Five Comes to Town Tonight for Battle With Tech

MARTINSVILLE IS BEATEN -IN BIG game ey Alices Wolfe, Forward, Tosses in 14 Out of 14 Foul Goals — Jarrell Goes Good. By DICK ANDERSON Times Sports Editor The pride of Vincennes came to town today for a game with Tech at the Y. M. C. A. tonight, munching a victory won Friday night from Martinsville In a hard game. The Artesian City team played a stiff game and Vincennes fought fiercely to nose out winner, 34 to 25. They led at the half 12 to 8. The first half was a great exhibi-1 tion of defensive ball .on the part of Vincennes. Jones, Alelga, Mayo, Harper and Wolfe, playing in a scattered formation extending from the center of the floor down to the basket practically frustrated every atempt of the Martinsville players to work the ball through. It was great work and showed the ability of five great of- \ fensive players working on the de-1 fen so, Wolfe, Vincennes forward wins the | marbles. Fourteen times he stepped up to the foul line and as many times he swished the ball through. In addl- j tlon he connected three times from the j field and played a great floor game, j Red Wampler, forward last year threw ■ 13 out of 13 against Martinsville at Martinsville. Mayo Great Guard Close behind Wolfe comes Mayo, snappy little floor guard. Working smoothly, in and out, at the right spot at the right time, dribbling excellently, Mayo stands out as a member of the “best" fclass. He scored only once from the field, but what a wonderful ! game he played. Harper seemed off j form and missed several easy “Har- ; per” shots. Allega, center, played a nice game, but in the second half oe seemed to have trouble securing the tip-off from Jarrell. Jones was Jones at the back guard position and therein lies a couple of columns. It was a different kind of a game in the second half. Martinsville got the ball better at the tip-off and it i aided their offensive play greatly. Jarrel, pivot man is a star. He played a j strong defensive game and scored four times from the field. Cox. crack forward didn’t strut his real stuff and ■ connected only twice from the field, i Brown, his partner got two. In Bain and R. Schnaiter Martinsville has a dandy pair of guards. Schnaiter played a nice game at the back field I position and Bain showed well at floor , guard. Game Is Fiercely Fought Martinsville put up a stiff fight. Every man on the team fought hard, but it’s the old story of the best team winning. With Wolfe as he was last night, Mayo working smoothly, Alega jumping center. Jones “Jonesing” in tiie background and Harper “Harping” along I want to see the team that will beat them. Find that team and you have solved the big problem—this year’s State champeen five. They showed none of the effects of the drubbing they took from Central of Evansville last Friday night in their own tomato patch. The Old Alice boys play Technical tonight on the Y. M. C. A. floor. The j team, accompanied by a goodly number of fans arrived in town this morning. Red Wampler, wonder forward of last year’s squad Is with his former teammates. Wolfe's feat of pitching 14 our of 14 fouls recalls the feats of the little red headed forward of last year, who was one of the best foul pitchers in the State. Jovial George Purcell of the Vincennes Sun is providing the “talk back home” with detailed accounts of the games away from home via special phone. The junior high school at Vincennes was crowded with 923 fans who “saw” the game by megaphone.

KANSAS DEMANDS WHITE’S FORFEIT Chicago Scrapper Overweight and Rocky Wants Roll. Bp t ailed V e.ics NEW YORK, Feb. 10.—Screams of terror, followed by low moans, brought the cauliflower colony running to the weighing-in room at Madison Square Garden Friday afternoon to find Charlie White in terrible distress. Charlie had weighed in three-quarters of a pound over the limit of 135 pounds for his fight with Rocky Kansas, and Dan Rogers, manager of had just announced that he would confiscate White’s forfeit of $2,500. * Rogers made a compromise proposal that White work off these expensive ounces in one hour. White broke into a cold sweat, but when the hour was up lie was still overweight, and so Rogers took his money. In the old days Charlie would have sewn 12,000,000 button holes In ! 5,000,000 vests for $2,500, so the money represented no trifle to him. The fori feit checks are in the hands of the : boxing commission, which changes Us | rules retroactively every day. Therefore, Kansas may never see the color I of White's money'.
