MILD'FLU’WAVE DISABLES 70,000 15,000 School Children Have Respiratory Diseases, There are 70,000 of respiratory diseases in the city, including 15,000 among school children, r. Herman G. Morgan, city sanitarian, estimated today. The chief malady is a mild form of influenza and the city health board floes not believe the situation warrants closing schools, theaters or public buildings, Dr. Morgan said. In compliance with a request of Dr. Morgan, Robert I. Todd, president of the Indianapolis Street Railway, said ventilators would he kept open on street cars and the cars cleaned and disinfected frequently. JURY WASTES NO TIME Takes Thirty Minutes to Convict Man for Bogus Cheeks. Ross C. Holland, former Indianapolis resident, today was under sentence of one to five years in the State prison, and fine of SI,OOO, after being convicted of issuing fraudulent checks. A jury in Criminal Court returned a verdict in thirty minutes. Holland persuaded three boyhood friends here to indorse checks on Hartford, Conn, banks, evidence showed. The checks were returned marked ‘‘no account,” and the friends had to stand good, it was alleged. Holland is wanted in Ohio, Illinois, and Kokomo, Ind., on similar charges, police said. DR. NUSBAUM WILL BE LAID TO REST SATURDAY Former Democratic State Senator Will Be Buried in Auburn. Funeral services for Dr. William H. Nusbaum, who filed Thursday at his home, 3002 Ruckle St., will be held at Auburn at 2 p. m. Saturday. Burial will be at Auburn. Dr. Nusbaum. former Democratic State Senator, was born and reared in Auburn. He was a graduate of Miami University of Medicine. He came to Indianapolis eleven years ago. He was a member of the Indiana Democratic Club, Ft. Wayne Elks Lodge and the Knights of Pythias. Dr. Nusbaum and his son, Dr. J. E. Nusbaum, were associated in the medical profession. FORMER MAYOR IS FREED Jewett Says Officer Overlooked Title Certificate in Auto. A traffic officer did not look carefully when he searched the automobile of ex-Mayor Charles W. Jewett for a certificate of title, Jewett testified in city court. Jewett said a title certificate was fastened to the instrument board in such a way that it was not easily visible. The court dismissed the charges.
