Local High Schools Meet Strong Foes Over Week-End on Basket Courts

TECHNICAL PLAYS MARION HERE ON SATURDAY NIGHT Cathedral Takes on Strong Garfield Team at Terre Haute Tonight. Plenty of opposition is in store for local high school teams over this week-end. Technical is the only team at home. The Green and White will endeavor to come out of the doldrums at the expense of Marion. The contest is scheduled for Saturday night at the Y. M. C. A. Tech is just about ready to surprise some team and may be saving up to turn the trick on Coach Gilbert’s Marion squad. The Eastsiders surprised Shelbyville as far as that goes, but Campbell’s team was not so surpri- and that they could not come back and nose out the locals. The new Tech line-up that played this game seems to be the best combination used so far. ltagaman, a freshman player, was at center, Schultze and Wehrel, forwards, and McClain and Gordon, guards. This team will probably start against Marion. Manual has its work cut out when the south side outfit goes to Greencastle. That big team surprised State net fans last Monday by handing Martinsville a defeat. It was the second time the Greencastle team defeated Curtis’ squad this season. Manual seems to be able at present to hold its own better than the other local aggregations. The squad is more settled and Coach Jones is getting the players together. The team has a good defense with Floyd and Eichman at guard and if some of the netters get to finding the hoop the team can give any of them a battle. Howard seems to be improving and Glazier and Martin should be good for some more baskets. Shortridge is in the Brownsburg tourney Saturday afternoon and night with Plainfield, Crawfordsville and Brownsburg. It looks very doubtful if the Indianapolis team has a chance in this meet, as Crawfordsville has already beaten Coach Gorton’s team and the record of Brownsburg is very impressive. The north side team is bound to give a good account of itself because it is learning more basket-ball each day. Cathedral is on a little jaunt to Terre Haute and is the only one of the quartet of local fives to battle tonight. One of the State’s best, Garfield of Terre Haute, will be met.

The Silent Hoosier seconds wilß play the Fishers seconds in the curtain '*aiser. Af ir Fishers the next game on the Silent’s schedule is one with the Ohio State School for the Deaf at Columbus, Ohio, next Thursday. George Sutton, handless billiard wonder, gave exhibitions afternoon and night at the Denison parlors Thursday and amazed the cue fans with remarkable runs and masse shots. He gave H. Teague odds of 3 to 1 at balk line in the afternoon and defeated him 300 to 34. He had a high run of 148 and averaged 42.8. At night Sutton payed both straight rail and balk-line and won easily.
