Interference Is Irksome to Youth in His ‘ Teens'
IF there is one thing a boy in his “teens” dislikes, it is interference in his affairs. i Mothers know how difficult boys are to handle at this age. One wrong word inay send them away from the shelter of the home. On the other hand, the right kind of treatment will set them on the straight path and its memory will hold them there in the years to come. The wise mother guides, but she does not interfere. Wants Independence Dear Miss Lee: I am a boy of 18 and have high ambitions, but seem never to succeed. ... . , My mother objects to my going with girls of my own choice. She also demands all of my weekly earnings. I took a girl to my homo for a dinner recently. She was a fine girl for any fellow to go with. My mother objected to her. making the excuse that sho acted rather lend and faster than a girl should. I took another to a party at my home, my mother and the other guests treated her all right. But as soon as the girl was gone, mother told me that if I could not get some one who dressed better than she did. 1 had better quit altogether. The girl’s clothes were, not showy, but sho dressed very neatly. This girl has refused to go with me because she found out what my mother said. I shall be very grateful if you could give me any information as to what course I should follow. E. J M. Evidently your mother is trying to do what is best for you; I am sure she does not realize how you feel about this matter. A hoy of 18 should bo ahle to han--1 die his own earnings. You might 1 persuade your mother to let you take ! care of your financial affairs for awhile, reporting to her and giving her a certain sum every week. Then you could prove your ability. If the first girl really was loud and “fast” your mother had reason for not wanting yon to go with her. Have a talk with your mother and show' her that yau can not help it if you happen to like a girl who does j not dress stylishly, and that style does not mean good character. Show her you are ready to accept | her advice, but that you are old enough to have some Independence. I Then prove that your judgment can be trusted. Wants to Write | JANETTE: 1 am glad my first letter helped you. i Truly, you have high ambitions. You have chosen two hard roads, so you must expect plenty of bumps. I cannot tell whether or not your story would be interesting; that would depend altogether upon your ability to write. If you wish to try it. have it typewritten and send it to the I magazine to whose needs It seems best fitted. If It comes back, not once but many times, still you need not feel too much discouraged; all authors have returned manuscript. I do not advise the motion picture 1 career, as you do not indicate that you have any reason to believe you can act. Even though you have such ability, success In the theatrical world is a large part of luck. Wants Freedom DEAR MISS LEE—I am a girl in my teem*. I never got to go any place. I always have to stay home and take c are

of my sister’s baby. I get so lonesome some times that I cry, I started to run away a couple of times, but I never get a chance. The only place I get to go is to my friend's house. LONESOME. Does your sister work, that she cannot take care of the baby herself? If she does, you should be willing to take on the duty part of the time. You should not be expected to give up all your time. Make some agreement with her, that you shall have certain hours off; that is fair enough. Do not run away, for if you did you would only he more lonesome, not less so. Love Is Undying DEAR MISS LEE —1 am a girl of 19 and really love a young man of 18. He oarae here about six months ago. He told me ho loved no other girl but me and won my love. A month ago he seemed to be turning cold toward me. Two weeks ago he told me he loved another girl five years older than he. Do you think it is right for me to tell him of my undying love? Now ho has gone back to Ills home in Kentucky, without even a good-bye to me. Please toll me how I can win back the love I have lost. HEARTBROKEN IRMA. Inna, boys of 18 are subject to such infatuations with older women. He’ll get over it, I hope. But don’t you see that he Is too young to know whom he really loves? Yuo cannot force him to love you. Npw don’t sli and cry and think life is barren when you read this. Instead, put on a. becoming costume and go visiting. There are other men in the world, and others just as fine and liner. Wants Wife Back Dear Misß Lee: My wife and I have had some serk us words and she has disappeared. The last account of her was Jan. 10 at 11:30. she cannot sleep well and when she is spoken to she draws up her shoulders in a nervous way. I know we could get together with greater love than before. When my children get up they say: "Has mother come home? Please say or do something that sho may come home and forgive me. WORRIED.
