SHYER ESCAPES AFTER STARRING WQMANIN HEART Mrs, Louise Dickerson Killed With Icepick—Husband Witness, SEARCH FOR SUSPECT Detectives sire searching for Artis Bailey, 23, colored. 137 W. Fourteenth St., as a material witness in the slaying of Mrs. Louise Dickerson, colored, 444 W. North St. The woman was stabbed in the heart as she was walking with her husband, Mathew Dickerson, near 717 Indiana Ave.. at 6:15 p. m. Thursday. Dickerson and his wife, police were told, had been separated, but were together most of Thursday. Dickerson told his wife he was going into Ethel’s Beauty Parlor near Indiana Ave. and North St. to get his overcoat and told her to walk up the avenue. When he reached the 600 block, he said, he found his wife quarreling with another man. Dickerson was on the other side of the street. He called to the woman. They walked to California St. and Indiana Ave., where Bailey, who had foUowed them, according to Dickerson, called, “I want io talk to you a minute, Louise." Dickerson said he started to take his wife into 717 Indiana Ave. Dickerson and other witnesses told police Bailey seized Mrs. Dickerson and stabbed her with an ice pick. Dickerson carried his wife into the home of his cousin, Charles Lamont, 717 Indiana Ave., but she was dead. James Field, colored, 436 W. Wabash St., who was standing near the scene of the murder, was charged with vagrancy. Ethel Crawford, colored, 840 N. West St., told police she was the exwife of Bailey and that he at one time cut her throat while they were living at Cleveland. G. 0. P. NEWSPAPER MEN MEET HERE NEXT WEEK Editor of Party Paper Principal Speaker on Program. Two hundred newspaper men are expected to attend the annual midwinter meeting of the Indiana Republican Editorial Association next Thursday and Friday, Jan. 25-6. The principal speaker will be George B. Lockwood, editor of the. National Republican. The sessions will open at the Hotel Severin Thursday morning and will continue through the day with the I reading of papers and discussions of interest to newspaper men. The dis cussions will continue through Frf day. with a banquet in the Riley room of the Claypool Hotel in the evening. Besides "Lockwood, those invited to speak at the banquet include Gov ernor McCray, Senators Watsons an New. Albert J. Beveridge. Mrs. S. E Boys of Plymouth and Miss Etelka Rockenbach, vice chairman of the Re publican State committee.
