Milady Likes ‘Caveman ’ Tactics in Moderation
THIS is for the boys. They appeal to me for suggestions as to how to win girls, how to overcome bashfulness, how to act when with girls—almost as many things as the girls themselves want to know. Well, boys, you will be liked hert if you are considerate and always the gentleman, but a bit of "caveman. ’ You should know enough about etiquette to guide the girls around without embarrassing them or yourself by glaring blunders. f A girl would rather have you notice how pretty her new dress looks than to bring her a box of candy—not that she would object to both the compliment and the candy at the same time. You need not be handsome, but you, should be well-groomed. Dear Miss Lee: I never have taken a girl out. but I have accompanied one home from school. lam IS. 1. Is it proper for a boy to give a air! a gift at auy time beside Christmas, birthdays. etc. ? 2. Should a bov give a girl toilet articles, such as toilet water, rouge, powder, lipstick, etc.? 3. If in a show with a girl, should you get some candy to cat? Should you hold any conversation? 4 Dees the boy take the girl to a show, candy kitchen, etc., or does she, do the judge's part? Does the boy ask the girl whether she desires to go? A. If a boy desires to kiss a girl, but knows it is not good character to ask lier and does not, is the boy worthy of the girl? Would it he all right to kiss her hand * (i. Is there any difference between fiance and sweetheart, or fiancee and beau? 7. How late should a boy keep a girl out in general ? 8. I cannot find anything to eay while with a girl. Would common newsoaper occurences be suitable? Or should you talk of the girl's beauty? I see no advantage in loafing around, as many fellows do. I would rather be in ray private laboratory experimenting. BAFFLED. 1. A box of candy, flowers, music, books and perfume are acceptable gifts at other times than special occasions. However, 1 think you' are young to start that practice. 2. Perfume or toilet water is all right. It would be rather an uncomplimentary suggestion to give a girl cosmetics, except some sort of vanity. 3. “Bad form” to eat In theaters.

Martha Lee’s Advice
Inconsiderate of others to talk except between acts. 4. The boy should ask whether the girl has any preference. If she has not, he should suggest places and ask her approval. 5. He might not be worthy of the girl, for other reasons, but certainly his restraint would mark him as a gentleman. Kissing the hand would be considered sentimental and probably would be laughed at by most modern girls. 6. A fiance is a man engaged to be married; a fiancee, an engaged woman. 7. For boys and girls of your age I should say 10:30 would be the proper time for the girl to be home. ■* 8. Current events, as reported in the newspapers, make good conversational topics. Little everyday experiences, your work and hers, travel stories, books, shows, sports, etc., all are good? You could not talk all evening about the beauty of many girls, I fear. There is no advantage, in loafing. Stick to your laboratory. Keep Smiling WORRIED: I have an idea the man would not want you to stop being jolly; but mix plenty of sympathy with the jollity. We all feel blue at times; perhaps he just wishes he could be more jolly. I don’t believe you have anything to worry about. Don’t give him any reason to be jealous if you love him, and he probably will be more cheerful. TIRESOME: It is all right for you and your sister to go places together —much better than not getting any recreation. Why are you disliked m company? Perhaps you just imagine that, and so are awkward. Try thinking about the people you are with, instead of about yourself. Parents Are Strict LONELY: No. I don’t think it it wrong for a girl of 17 to have nice boys come to the house. But if your parents object, you cannot very wellhave them. It won’t hurt you to wait another year or so before going with hoys. Your parents do seem rather strict, hut I am sure are that way only because they want to be sure you will not get out with the wrong people.

You really are better off than If they were not strict enough, so don’t worry, but just have a good time when you are wish other young people. ANXIOUS: The man has a wellknown “ailment”—jealousy. Why on earth shouldn't you notice other men, if you are not blind? Just don' f notice them too much. Try giving him some of his own medicine.
Note: A 19-year-old girl, engaged to a 28-year-old man, has written me her story, telling of another woman who has come between her and her fiance. The letter is unsigned. If the girl will please repeat her story, telling the whole thing, and send me a stamped, self-addressed envelope, I shall he glad to advise her. I cannot give advice unless I know alll the facts of a story. Engaged, but Unhappy Dear Miss Lee: I am in love with a young- man one year my senior. lam young in years, but old in mind regarding this subject. Ho seems to care tor me. but is very ' a c.'o-hearted and sometimes makes mo miserable. We became engaged Christmas and I received a beautiful ring. The other night we had a fuss and I tried to return the ring, but he would not take it. Os late I am so undecided I am miserable. Sometimes I hate him and other times I long for him with whole heart. What is the matter with me and what am I to do? UNDECIDED. Why did you quarrel and who was to blame? Answer that question and I can answer yours more readily. I wonder just how young you are in years- Too young to be engaged, if lam any judge. If you are not and if you really love the man your feelings now are natural. quarreling, breaking your engagement within two weeks. I don’t think you and the man, or boy, really love each other enough to marry. Sounds more like infatuation than Jove to me. Whose Man Is He? Telltale Symptoms of Woman's His Every woman who suffers from backache, headaches, dragging-down pains, nervousness, irregularities, displacements, irritability, or despondency should recognize in such symptoms some derangement of her system which should have attention before some serious ailment develops. These conditions are often evidenced by a sallow complexion, dark circles under the eyes, lassitude and sleeplessness. For nearly fifty years Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound has been pre-eminently successful in overcoming such conditions, and it is now recognized everywhere as the standard remedy for woman’s ills.—Advertise* meat.
