Are you ready for thè surprise? Here it. comes —Notre Dame is goiug to play Princeton next fall! The contest between thè “Fighting Irish*' and thè Tigers will he staged in thè Palmer stadium. Princeton, X. J., Oet. 20, and it is sure to develop into one of thè biggest intersectional clashes of
football history. The important battio with thè Tigers was closed today aster several days’ ■if correspondence between thè Xotre Dame athletic director and Coach Roper of Princeton. The Tigers defeated both Harvard md Yale this fall and lìnished with i clean siate. With this record to its ■elt and with Xotre Dame prospeets •right for 1923, there is every reason o predici that when Xotre Dame and Princeton clash Oct. 20, thè “standing : oom only’’ sign will be hung out long before thè starting whistle sounds. Schedule Wide Scope Coach Rockne announeed ten game on thè Xotre Dame 1923 football program and thè Irish will be ~ent against teams of nine States, as follows: Indiana, Illinois, Xebruska, < leorgla. Michigan. New York, Xew Jersey, Pennsylvania and Missouri. Another big feature of thè schedule alls for Notre Dame to meet thè Vrmy at thè Polo Grounds. Xew York 'ity. Heretofore this contest has been staged ut West Point, but due •o thè growing importance of thè battio, West Point authorities decided to transfer it to Gotham, where a larger crowd can view it. It will increase thè prestige of thè event and gìve it more class as an intersectional affair. Home-coming will be with thè -frong Georgia Tech machine Oct. 27. Other homo cames will he with Kalainazoo Sept. 29. Lombard Oct. 6. Purdue Ncv. 3 and Butler Xov. 17. Lomi>ard is new <>n thè schedule and thè ; < alesburg tilt* school is not easy by :ny toer.il>. Cathedral takes on Z'onsville at thè Shortridge ". vm - Manual is thè other Indianapolis five in Columbus on Friday night. It’s vacation days for most of thè high school students, but not for thè bove mentioned net, squads. Shortridge is thè onlv team that has had a rest, and thev are not so much in need of thè work as
thè others. Coach Burton gave them a seven days’ rest in which they could forget basket-ball. Manual and Tech bave been naving strenuous morning practices. The Green and White team, under Coach Black, right now looks like thè one best bet among thè locai schools. There is a triumvirale of eoaches at Tech—Black, Leverenz and Coppie—and none of them are very comrnunicative as regards thè starting line-up for thè opener. But it cannot help but be sontething like this: Schultze, Byer3 or Rabe will have thè cali on thè forward jobs. with Jefry a possioiiity. Carter looks like thè starter at center. Hite is showing best at floor guard. with Unger at back guard. Cottrell is also a possibility at thè last-named position. Experienced Players Three of thè above named players carne to this city from other schools and have had experience on State fives. Schultze emigrated from Jef ferson of Lafayette in 1923 and was eligible thè last semester of last season Bvers was a star at Morgantown and Hite is a Martinsville boy. Cathedral also is starting off thè season. This team is greatly handlcapped because of thè lack of a gymnasium in which to practice. Interest at thè school. however, is at a high pitch. A majority of thè hotne contests will be played at fhe Shortridge floor. A! The Columbus quint has lost some games, but they were dropped to thè best in thè State, Vincennes and Franklin were among thè mim-, ber. Coach Jones has been holding morning workouts in an endeavor to get thè squac in smooth working crder. The plajers who are making up thè team have been out only two weeks as thè footballers have stepped off thè gridiron onto thè hardwoodIt looks as though thè team will line up at Columbus as in thè Shortridge contest last week.
