FOES OF SCHOOL PLMIS- WILL GO TOSTATE BOARO Appeal to Tax Commissioners Planned to Hold Up Program^ COST TO BE $1,750,000 Architects Selected for Eight Buildings- Simi'ar Move Made Year Ago. Foes of thè building- program of thè board of school commissioners will carry their fight to thè State board of tax commissioners, it became known today. In an effort to relieve overcrowdod housing conditions now existing in thc public schools, thè board recently adopted a program calling for new buildings and additions at eight schools. The maximum cost of thè I-.ildings will be about $1.750,000. accordlng to estimates made by Jacob Hilkene, inspector of construction for thè board. Architects were selected and preparation of plans now is under way. Before bids can be received thè school board must obtain thè approvai of thè State board of accounts to thè plans and specifications and thè bond issue must be approved by thè State board of tax commissioners. On remonstrance of ten taxpayers thè tax board is required to grant a public hearing. More than a year ago construction of four buildings was defeated when thè tax board refused to aprove thè bond issue aster a long drawn-out hearing. In this case thè remonstrance was signed by ten menil>ers of thè Taxpayers League of Indiana. It has been more than eighteen months since construction of a school building was start ed in Indianapolis, ileantime housing conditions have becorne so bad that se venti thousand pupils are housed in portables and other temporary buildings. mìilT SWAYCONFEREICE
