CADILLKC PASSES BEST SALES YEAR Price Reduction Notice Followed by Production List. Following thè recent announcement of thè E. W. Steinhart Company, locai dealers for Cadillac, Oakland and Chevrolet, that thè Cadillac phaeton and seven-passenger models had been reduced $265, H. H. Rice, president and generai manager of thè company, has lssued thè statement that- thè Cadillac factory has experienced its best sales ye&r and that prospects for 1923 business point to thè necessity for enlargement of production facilities. Recent increase in production, he says, was largely responsible for thè decrease in thè price. The reduction in price brings thè Cadillac touring down to $2.885, or $1,055 less than eleven months ago, when thè first price cut become effective. ' The Steinhart Company reports that al ready thè Cadillac production has gone 54 per cent for enclosed models. This fact rendere thè company one of a very few Indianapolis ‘sales companies which is not expe riencing some difficulty in securing closed models for immediate delivery, though it reports thirty-three ordere for closed Chevrolets unfilled. The Chevrolet closed business, it is stated, runs less than 24 per cent of thè company’s entire production. EARL-INDIANAPOLIS / COMPANY IS FORMED F. P. McLelJen and George Irish of thè Sales Company, dealers for Premier and Earl care, have annoftnced they will move their business from 427 X. Meridian to 422 N. Meridian Bt., and that thè firm will henceforth be Tcnown as thè EarlIndianapolis Company in compiiance with requests from thè Earl factory, which requires dealers to incorporate thè carname in thè sales agency name. Mr. McLellen and Mr. Irish announce that their move will be of temporary nature, as they anticipate moving imo permanent quarK-rs in thè spring, and make public contradiction of thè report that thè firm hast- gone bankrupt, which rumor, théy say. is false and unfounded as well as that to thè effect that Earl factory was in dire financial straits. Both membere of thè firm say they have excellent assurances from thè Earl factory that thè company, aster having been refin siced, will be able to take care of Earl ownere, in addition to increasing its production. OPTÌISMSHOWN 'BYKDTOnSEEBS Erskine Calls Attention to Improvement in Business. The weekly bulletin of the Motor and Acccssory Manufacturers’ Association, representing 423 members actively engaged in the accessory business throughout the United States points to some statements from prominent automobile manufacturers which thè association believes pertinent to bring to the attention of the public at this time. A. R. Erskine, president of the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend, in discussing the credit and financial Outlook for 1923, expresses great faith in continued good business for the coming year, which is substantially corroborated in the statement of Alfred Reeves, president of the National Automobile Chamber of Commerce, who points to the recent enlistment of 22,000 bankers in the aid of automobile dealers throughout the nation in extending credit and p_sßÌßting in every possible way to heft> the distributor to finance the cara which he has on his sales floor, while more and more funding companies are constantly being formed to care for the retail sales. While Mr. Reeves is generally optimistic in his outlook, he takes occasion in his public statement to remark that, notwithstanding the fact that the credit of some of the stronger companies may be strengthened, some of the weaker ones may fall by the wayside as a number have done with ir the past year. Suspension of business, however, he eays, seldom resulta in the complete loss of the business to the industry, inasn.uch as insolvent companies are tisually absorbed by* larger and stronger corporations or completely refinanced and started on their way a gain.
