Charlie Chaplin Aster Laurels of Wales as Fiancee Hound
By JAMES W. DEAN NEW YORK, Nov. 29. —Well, well! So they say Charlie Chaplin and Pola Negri are betrothed! Charlie now has been reported engaged as often as thè Prince of Wales —and to as many different girls. The rumor of Charlie's engagement to Negri is thè only one in which this writer has taken any stock. Since thè divorce of Chaplin and Mildred Harris thè comedian has been reported engaged to at least six girls. In almost every case thè girl's name tlius was given a prominence that it would not have otherwise enjoyed. Linking of thelr namea with one so renowned as Chaplin’s was fat stufi for thè presa agents. Chaplin Is a gallant man. His popularity was not hurt by these announcements and althoueh he may have resented thè lntrusfon of gossipmoilgerß lnto his private affairs he

"Indicatlons are that thera will be nothing more than a seasonal declino | In thè lumber business thls winter,” j Mr. Haskett sald. "In my opinion ' thera is no doubt that thè amount j of winter business this year will ex- j eeed that of a year ago, and building operatlons continued throughout thè winter of 1921, due to favorable weather condltions.
“There is stili some troubta being \ promptiy. This applfes especially to lumber shipnients from thè snft pine territory throughout thè Southwest. Of course they are, in n way. thè naturai result of a demand ■ above thè normal and small shortag , growlng out of thè fatllure In some instanees to obtain railroad cara fori shipping purposes. “This certalnly has been a record breaklng year In thè lumber trade Month aster month durlng thè nutrìmer set a new record for sales with us, only to have a new record set thè month following, There was a great shortage of building in Indianapolis following thè war, and lt seema that 1 all attempts to catch up with It have not been suceessful. Home construc tion Is continulng in thè same volume! which marked its progress durlng thè early fall. Other types of constructlon are in full swing and will continue so long as weather condltions permlt. "Lumber stock. in Indianapolis are sutficient to meet present demanda. X belleva. Our own stock ls in good shapn and we have a good volume of lumber on hnnd. was too chivalrous to deny openly thè reported engagements to thè various young ladies. With Pola Negri thè case is utterly different. She is famed on two continents.
