LLOYD GEORGE liti POINTOFVSNTfIGE Premier Prepared to Lead Opposition to Law Government. LABOR TAKES INITIATIVE King's Speech From Throne Is Signal for Protesta by Ramsey MacDonald. Py United Press LONDON, Nov. 24. —Former Premier Lloyd George’s flrst word in thè House of Commons as a member of thè opposition to Bonar Law's conservative government was expected today, as Parliament laid aside thè trappings of state and got down to hard work on thè Irish bill. Rumore that Lloyd George would retire for a while were set at rest by his acceptance of election to leadership of thè national liberals. In thls positipn he will be expected to speak on all lmportant Issues, following Ramsey MacDonald, leader of thè labor opposition and former Premier H. H. Asquith of thè Wee Frees. - Labor Seizes Initiative Labor lost no time in seizing thè Initiative among Bonar Law’s opponents in thè House. The King's snMch from thè throne, formally ofjrng Parliament, was scarcely made before Ramsey MacDonald was on his feet in thè House, denouncing thè conservative govemment's attitude and warning of a 6trong fight by labor against unsatlsfactory measures to relieve housing Bhortage and labor difficultiea. For thè flrst time in history, thè La* bor party is "his majesty's opposition” and thè switch of leadership from J. R. Cllnes to MacDonald has proved a master ertroke in thè opinion of thè party’a followers —thè lattar bringing to thè house a fresh Are and enthusiasm which thè older, more conservative labor leader lacked. Tart exchanges Lady Astor and labor members featured thè opening session. The former Virginia girl bitterly opposed to most of labor’s principles, shrieked at a labor M P. to "keep a civil tongue in his head.” “Keep a civil tongue in your oro, Miss.” was thè unabashed reply. The Irish Free State constitution bill was before thè house this week.
