Women Lack Experience in Politics Says Miss Alice
Coptrrinht, J9S B, bv United Presa \ WASHINGTON, Nov. 23.—Amerl- J can women are not experienced enough in politica to hold high office, such as a seat in Congress, Representative Alice Robertson of Oklahoma said todav. She said her own career in Congress has convinced her of, that. “Women haven't had enough experience yet to be ready for office,” she declared. “We are oniy in thè kindergarten of politica and we are not yet ready for thè higher mathematica. For thè time being, my advice to my sex is to not seek office, butto study politica from thè ground up and learn how to vote. Then, aster a wliile we can go aster thè higher honors. Women Too Tempennental “Women now are too temperamental and too sensitive in politica and I include myself. That is because we are novice* at thè game. It won’t be that way aster we’ve worked our way up from thè bottom and leamed to take thè personal eiement out of it. "Aunt Alice” was afraid her re- | marks would be construed as "sour ; grapes” becauae of her defeat in thè | recent election. “But it is nothing o fthe kind,” she said. "I was sorta mad about getting beat, but I didn’t shed any tears or carry on one bit. The views I am expressing are not partlcularly new

wlth me. Tou remember I was op posed to woman suffrago at thè start and I only ran for Congress when 1 my friends made me.” Home Always First The time should never come, said Miss Robertson when a woman will neglect her home for politics. “Holding office,” she declared, "cannot compare to taking care of a home and raising children.” Women will not learn thè fundamentals of politics as they should, silo Baid, until they are willing to take it seriously. A suggestion of a bridge game, she said, will always break up a wotnan’s study meeting on better government. “The lady from Oklahoma” lndlcated she regards thè seating of Mre. Felton of Georgia, as thè flrst woman Benator, an empty honor. Titlo Meati Nothing “We will honor this grand old woman,” she said, “but her tltle as Benator really means nothing and has no hearing on woman’s place in politics. I do not consider lier being seated in thè Senato as having any politicai significance whatsoever.” I’oìnting out that raany women candìdates for Congress were defeated in thè recent election. Miss Robertson declared it was “made plain that neithor party wants women in Con gress.”
