Mr. Coleman said: “The bar gains another good lawyer. Judge Thomton has made a good judge. He has served thè people honestly and well. He has spent thè most fruitful period of his lise In a position of trust and hard work. “The people can not fully appreciate thè sacrifice that thè successful lawer makes when he assumes a judgebip. Tn addition to thè hard work ’nvolved thè office is one of isolated iignity. He is hedged about, as it were, with an invisible barrier over which his friends are apparently un- ■ able to climb. When thè retirement cornee ordlnarily he must needs start all over again, oftentimes exhausting hle hard eamed savlngs before he eslabllshea hlmrelf In thè practice again. LetU Digntty to Bench “Judge Thomton, with his wavy whlte hair, like his successor, Judge fyathers, lends a peculiar dlgnlty to 'he office. “The people of Marion County for rnany years have been peculiarly fortunate in having honorable men and ’.awyers of abilito as judges of their locai court:?. "I belìeve I am safe in saying that no city in this country have judges who are so uniformly men of high standing as lawyers and have thè reputation of being good judges; it is not every lawyer who has thè temperament to make a good judge. Bar Welcontes Hini Back "The bar of Marion County weicomes Judge Thornton again to its ranks, as it likewise welcomes Judges l'arter and Robinson. “Judge Leathers has demonstrated iiis fitness for thè judicial position, And we are assured that thè high quality of judicial discretion and judgment shown by Judge Thomton wlll be continued by Judge Leathers. “Judges Miller and Givan, though young In years, are both good lawyers, men of high character and atalnments. and thè people of Marion 'ounty can rest assured that thè udministration of justice is in safe j iands.”
