TELLS PDSITIDN ON'DRY'NOTES By MRS. SIACI) WOOD PARK President of thè National Leagrue ot Women Voterà Written for thè United News CHICAGO, Nov. 13—The attltude of thè National League of Women Voters on prohlbition enforcement ls, of course, in line with its policy of strong advoeaey of law enforcement In generai. No specific action was taken upon this at thè last natlonal convention, held in Baltimore in thè spring, but lt is thè understanding of our membership that thè resolution adopted at thè convention in Cleveland last year, in which we carne out strongly for enforcement of all laws, including thè prohlbition laws, constitutes one of thè league’s standards. However, our position is part of a larga program, and not at all a crusade in any specialized understanding. Ariy other position, either by thè league or on thè part of members of Congress, is impossible. The provision for prohlbition in thè United States is not statutory, but ls a part of thè Federai Constitulion ltself. Members of Congress, together with all other public officlals in legislative, admlnistrative and Judicial positions, take an oath to uphold thè ConstitUtlon when they are inducted lnto office; obviously, from this there can be no appeal. Th<} League of Women Voterà wishes to be sound in thè forefront of thè forces which aro contending for law enforcement and for good govem* ment, but thè members of thè officiai board are not unmlndful of thè danger of acquirlng a too narrow vlaw of law enforcement and good guvernment In generai, if thè voter, man ot woman, permits one question and one only to constitute his standard ot what ls required in a candidate who presents himself for public office.
