WOULD YOU REWED ? Meighan Looks Into Future in Movie
By JAMES W. DEAN NEW YORK, Nov. 9. —Well, old man, if you had lt all to do over again would you get married? Every once In a whiie you hear tbat questlon. half In jest, half in earnest Most men say, of course. they would. Others answer wlth lesa heart. Only a few are brave enough to say they would not. It Is safe to eay that aU of them would. Consider thè number who marry more than once. But in "The Man Who Saw Tomorrow” Thomas Meighan is allowed ; to look lnto thè future and see just what hls lite would be were he to marry an arlstocratic Engllsh girl or thè daughter of a South Sea captaln The aristocratic girl would Uve only for her ambition to reach thè social pinnacle. The skipper’s daughter would live onjy for thè happiness of her husband. Naturally, thè latter wms In a walk. This story in itself Is Interesting but lt is difficult of telling on thè screen. One is Ukely to become sadly beaddled in one's tenses, not being able to distinguish between action that has taken place and what it is supposed will take place. The entertainment ls hardly worthy of thè mental exertlon required to follow thè story. Without looklng up any statistica lt seems to me that Thomas Meighan appears in more films than any other masculine star. The result is some of hls plctures are of mediocre qual ity. His work in them is mediocre That, probably because there is nothing in thè story to insplre him to good work. "The Man Who Saw Tomorrow” seems to fall in that classiflcation. Meighan ls one of thè screen’s most capable actors. Hls talent should be conserved for something more than potboiling Alma, that is, “program pictures.” Aster all, thè story of "The Man Who Saw Tomorrow’’ isn't so romantlc. Who would want to know in advance Just what each day would bring, just how each crisis would result? That last ls a paradox. If thè result were known in advance no situation would be a crisis. And what would llfe amount to without a crisis or two? + -I- + In Indianapolis Today The following attractions are on vlew today in IndianapoUs: "Sprlngtime Frivoli ties” at thè Lyric; "The Son'Dodgers” at Keith's; ‘ Plantation Days” at thè Murat; “The Painted Flapper" at thè Shubert-Park: Seattle Harmonists at thè Palace; "On thè Levee" at thè Rialto; ‘ Pepper Pota” at thè Broadway; “Alias Julius Caesar” a tthe Clrcle; “A Fool There Was" at thè Apollo; “The Prisoner of Zcnda” at thè Ohio; “The Man Who Saw Tomorrow" at thè Colonia!; "The Fighting Guide” at Mister Smith’s; "Fair Lady” at thè Isis, and “Out of thè Clouds” at thè Regent.
