MILLIONSWILLBE ! UVITHOUT VOICE 111 , YEAR’SELECTIONS Figures Compiled at National Headquarters Indicate Lack of Interest. BIG CITIES ARE APATHETIC Locai Issues Serve to Swell Registiations in Some Instances. Copi/rioht. lttt, by United Preti WASHINGTON. Oct. 20.—Flgures compiled by politicai headquarters here indicate that thè total vote in thè November election wlll be less than 20,000,000 as aguinst a combined vote by Republicans and Democrats of 2,200.000 in 1620. The big cities are indicative of thè generai state of mind. In New York registration this year fell off 176,000 from 1920. In Chicago, 209,434 voterà registered this year where a milllon had been expected. In 1920 thè registration was 884,190. Big Drop in Pennsylvania In Pennsylvania, where Pinchot and McSparran have been caropaigning for thè governorship, it is estimateli that registration is 35 per cent lower than two years ago. Pittsburgh had 114,000 registered voters fcàien, and this year but 82,000: PhilaKlphia had 450,371 then and virtually 100,000 less this year. St. Louis droppod 50.000 from 1920 In spite of thè intense interest in thè Rced-Brewster senatorial fight. In Minnesota where there is no regis tration outslde cities, party leaders expect a vote of about 600.000 instead of thè 780.000 cast in 1920. Indiana on thè contrary, it is understocd here, expects to exceed its 1920 registration of 1,400,000 and its vote of 1,250,000. Indiana is always lnterested in politics, however. Locai Issues in California California, which has locai issues, also shows increased registration. 1,602.293. as compared with 1,375,000 in 1920. * Denver registered 97,000 in 1920, this year 80.000. Wisconsin has no registration for generai elections, but thè campaign wore itself out there in thè primary contest, and thè 500,000 Kepublican votes will go mostly to La Follette. Massachusetts, which votes on wine and beer in addition to congressional candidates, shows heightened interest, with a Boston registration of 209.000, against 201,000 two years ago. In Washington, Oregon, Montana and other Western States registered registration is about thè sanie as in 1920.
