MIN IN GHW IS MASTEH MINO OFDOUGLEGRIME Florence M. North Develops Clew to Identity of Guilty in Jersey Killing. JEALOUSY FIEND’S MOTIVE Hungarian Witness Fails to Recognize Widow of Slain Rector. Florence M. North. personal counsel for Charlotte Mills, gave yeeterday ber theory ol thè New Brunswick doublé murder, whteh witfc a large staff of opcratives. she has been investigatine on behalf of thè motherlees vintili, of thè tragedy. She decìared Dr. Hall was sìain by accident and >! ,-s Milìs later. in a deserted building, not thè Phillips farm. but some diatanoe from where thè bodies ere sound. Today Miss North tells who she believes to be thè murderer. By FLORENCE M. NORTH. Attomey for Charlotte Mills. Copyright. 19ti, by United Press NEW BRUNSWICK, N. J., Oct. 19. —I beiieve tre know thè murderer of Mra. Eleanor Mills and Dr. Hall. It is thè tvoman in gray. This tvoman, dressed in a long gray coat that fell to her ankies, was seen
by witnesses at thè spot where thè bodies of thè pastor and thè sexton’s wife were sound and was observed in an automobile which I beiieve to have been thè death ear. Seer in Closed Motor She was sten, this woman in gray. In a closed motor car driving from thè scene that Thursday night. She ls thè woman who was jealous of Mrs. Mills. She la thè woman who, otherwise a normal, highly respected member of her community, was transformed through Jealous heat-hatred lnto a fury. so that she slashed thè throat of her pretty vtctim, whose only sin was loving too much thè beautiful things of lise and thè kindly man who could give them to her. I can not teli her name—yet. Our chain of evidence lacks some links. She walks among us today a free woman. behind a mask; her long, gray coat discarded. Measuring Distane© On thè afternoon of Sept. 14, she was carefully measuring thè distance from thè barn to thè Somerset County line. The murder was commltted In Middlesex County. The bodies were carefully taken to a spot just over thè line in Somerset County. : The center of investigation was thus thrown miles away from thè homes of thè murderers. Durlng thè questioning of Mrs. Hall, widow of thè pastor, county authorities requlred her to put on a long, gray coat, that a Hungarian woman witness might identify her lf posslble, as thè woman In gray. This thè Hungarian woman failed to do. But some day we will put that coat upon thè right woman. The body of thè pastor was car ed for tenderly by thè woman in gray. Body Thrown Ronghly The body of Mrs. Mills was thrown roughly down. Then thè murderers, at a sign from thè woman in gray. took their departure. leacing swlftiy in closed cars; but not before witnesses had seen this woman and two of her accomplices. She is a free woman today, but she must have left a trace. Perhaps she wore a distinctive perfume, this gray woman. In thè pagina crowJs i this may lead to her detection.
