RIPPLE BUD IS ASKED TD REFUSE TO CIIIEf BOOKS Citizens in Mass Meeting Continue Protest of Annexation by Forming Resolutions. Members of the town board of Broad Ripple were asked to refuse to turn over the-property and records of the town to the city in a resolution adopted by citizens opposed to annexation in a mass meeting in the Odd Fellow hall, Sixty-Fourth and Bellefontaine Sts., last night. City Controller Joseph L. Hogue asked the board to make the transfer today, but records were not complete m and the board asked that the city wait until some time next week. J. W. Gillespie, superintendent of the Broad Ripple school, told the audience at the mass meeting he had hea. and children are attending school In Indianapolis in unheated portable buildings and cited this as an argument against annexation. The Broad Ripple school is in Washington township outside the town. It was built bj- the township, but Broad Ripple children were permitted to attend it free because the town paid school tax mon&y to the township. Since Broad Ripple is part of the city, the township trustee threatens to charge each Broad Ripple child SIOO a year tuition. The children must either go to this building or to School No. 70, at Forty-Sixth St., and Central Ave., almost twenty blocks away. Mayor Shank proposed the city annex the school property. Broad Ripple residents say this would be impossible because the township paid for it and it would not be equitable for the city to take it in without re-im-burslng the township. If the city took in the school township children would have to pay the city tuition. Broad Ripple people believed.
