DONATIONS POUR mm find Noblesville Kiwanis Club First of State to Raise Quota. Contributions totaling $13,025 to the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children have been received at the State headquarters thus far this week, it has been announced. The Noblesville Kiwanis Club, with sixty-flve members, has contributed $2,600 as its share of the $150,000 fund the Kiwanis Clubs of the State will raise for the erection of one of the wings of the hospital, according to a telegram received at the headquarters from Dr. Earl Brooks, president of the club. The Noblesville club is the first in the State to raise its quota of the Kiwanis memorial fund. Kingan & Cos. of Indianapolis has contribnuted $2,500 to the fund and a contribution of $250 also has been received from Bishop Joseph M. Francis. The Progress Club of Sheridan, Ind., with less than twenty members, has raised a SI,OOO fund for the hospital. The Rotary Club of Marion has made a gift of SIOO to the hospital. Other contributions include: Dr. and Mrs. Charles P. Emerson, $1,000; Pitt-man-Moore Company, $850; B. N. Wilson, $750; contributions of S6OO each from Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Dyer, Jesse A . Shearer. When Patrolman McCormack heard the sound of breaking glass at the Edward G. Grahn drug store, 1249 Cornell Ave., at 2:30 o'clock this morning he investigated and surprised two ; burglars. The policeman opened fire ! on the men, who ran as he approached, i McCormack fired three shots at the prowlers. McCormack was a block north of the drug: store when he heard the breaking of the glass. The officer did not get close enough to the two suspects to get a description of them.

FIVE MAY BE LIST OFF SABLE ISLAND Schooner Marshal Foch Goes Aground and Is Being Pounded by Sea. By United Netes HALIFAX. N. S„ Oct. 12.—A fresh gale of thick weather made difficult Wednesday ni?ht the search for five members of t*e crew of the Gloucester schooner Marshal Foch, who were reported off Sable Island in an open dory. The schooner, which was wrecked seeking fresh halibut, was settling forward in the sands and was expected to be a total loss. Captain James Whittle and seven men were landed at Sable Island shortly after the boat stranded. A wireless from the island at 9:30 p. m. reported eight additional men safe on shore. The dory, with the five remaining men, was last seen by shipmates to be crossing the northeast bar off the island. The dory was said to be well supplied with food, sails and a compass. BUG HUNT In State House Offices of the State department of conservation were turned inside out late yesterday, all because Frank Wallace, Stale entomologist, lost his pet bug. The entire personnel of the department as well as a few outsiders were called upon to assist in the bug hunt. The bug, known as a tobacco leach, was found by the State official after crawling under a table on his hands and knees. SOVIET GIVES RIGHTS American Returns With First Concession for Oil Land Development. By United Netcs NEW YORK, Oct. 12.—What is said to be the first large oil concession granted by the Russian soviet was brought back by Mason Day, president of the International Barnsdall Corporation, who arrived here Wednesday. The concession gives the privilege of developing 400 acres of land in the Baku oil district for an almost Indefinite period, Day said.
