Federal officers and police today said they expected to take Into custody the men who owned the largest still ever taken hy local authorities, confiscated within onehalf block of Illinois and Washington Sts. at 133 W. Court St.. Saturday. That the operators had just left the place was shown by the fact that the still was warm. It was heated by a fan-blown flame. Near the still were thirty five-gallons jugs of finished white mule. The officers found jugs in the room that had been taken in previous raids and sold by the police at auction. On the third floor the distillers had a stock of 3,000 pounds of sugar, hundreds of pounds of yeast, fiftyga lon barrels of mash and three fiftygallon barrels of mule whisky of the first run. The rooms were rented under the name of the Capitol Bag Company. According to neighboring business men the still was operated at night and Sunday. A girl, accustomed to hanging a tin cup on a nail, took a drink and absent mindedly tried to hang a glass on the nail. —H. S. and E. S. William Scheres. chief of police of Lafayette, reported to, the Indianapolis department that a thief broke into n clothing store last night in Lafayette and carried ajway 612 fountain pens. By United Preeg A WASHINGTON, Oct. 9.—As th® first step in a program of refunding of Government obligations maturing within a few months, the Treasury Department today is preparing to float a bond issue of? 500,000,000 in 4hi per cent securities. The issuance of these bonds was announced by Secretary- of the Treasury Mellon, who, in a letter to bankers commenting on the new issue, said it was a refunding issue, which will afford a “particularly favorable opportunity to holders of 4% per cent victory notes to acquire a long time Government bond on attractive terms in place of victory notes which will mature or be redeemed within the next few months.” The new bonds will bear date ot Oct. 16, and will mature in 1952. the Government reserving the privilege tc redeem them in 1947, when the last of the war loans mature. Four men were injured Saturday night when their automobile crashed into a barricade erected by workmen on the road between Alligonville and Noblesville.
