NURSES INSPECT PUPILSAT HOTEL Health Workers Demonstrate School Clinic—Conference Ends Saturday. The Travertine room of the Lincoln Hotel was transformed Into a schoolroom today, during the Indiana conference of public health nurses. Six pupils from school district No. 2 were put through medical inspection by the nurses. They were weighed and measured; their eyes were tested; a general health inspection was given. They even went through a toothbrush drill, under the direction of Mrs. Jane Terry, public health nurse of Clinton County. Miss Aline Mergy, public health nurse of Wabash County, dressed in regulation uniform, arranged the ■'schoolroom” for inspection and gave the pupils a health talk. Mrs. John D. Smith of Tipton County, assisted by Miss Naomi Blosser of Goshen and Miss Julia Groscup of Auburn, demonstrated work in a tonsil clinic in a rural community. The conference will end Saturday morning. Dr. Rachelle Yarros of the United States public health service at Chicago will be the principal speaker, BALLOTS TOO COSTLY If Advisory Aspirants Withdraw, Only Machines Will Be Used. All voting in the coming election will be done on machines, it has unofficially been decided. County Clark George Coffin announced. The plan will receive official sanction if the candidates for advisory board to the tiustee in Center Township agree to withdraw. Under the plan the party that elects the trustee will name the advisory board. The office is fairly unimportant, paying a salary of $5 a year, and it is hard to get men to take it, Mr. coffin said. Consequently, it was not deemed feasible to spend approximately SI,OOO in preparing separate ballots and booths for the three candidates. BROTHERS SENTENCED Fred and Ban Brown Confess Having Committed Hold-lps. Fred J. Brown. 39. and Ban Brown, 36. brothers, living at Stop 4% on the Northwestern line north of Indianapolis, pleaded guilty to charges of robbery before Special Judge Frank A. Simms in Marion County Criminal Court today and were sentenced to ten to twenty years in the State prison, fined SIOO and costs and disfranchised for ten years. The brothers confessed to having committed several hold-ups of automobiles and pedestrians in the north part of the city. The specific charge to which they pleaded guilty today was robbing Lula Davis, 516 E. Orange St., who was robbed of $23 and a bar pin on Sept. 1 while she was sitting on a bench in Riverside park with a triend. BUILD TEMPORARILY Commissioners Decide on Wood Structures for Poor Farm. After weeks of deliberation, talk and an inspection by the State fire marshal, it has been decided by the county commissioners to erect small wooden buildings for temporary use at the county poor farm, and defer the settlement of handling the county poor until some other time. The top floors of the ramshackle mens' building have been boarded up, due to their dirty condition and the ’act that they make a fire trap, it was 33 :il. SLAIN BY HAMMER BLOW Frank Hamish of Union City Killed at Dayton. Ks Times Special UNION CITY. Ind.. Oct 6 Frank Hamish, 42. formerly of this city, was was killed by the blow of a hammer on his head and from knife wounds inflicted at Dayton. Ohio, where he was employed. His death occurred at St. Elizabeth Hospital here. The l>ody was brought back here for burial. Two men are under arrest at Dayton who are alleged to have engaged in a fight with Hamish. They are Russell Taylor and Mel Mcllvain. What precipitated the quarrel has not been determined.
