Kansas City society girls lift an eyebrow at this fad Chicago society girls have initiated in patronizing barber shops, and think they’ve been going the girls of the Windy City one better for some time. In Kansas City when a woman wants a barber to massage her face or shampoo her scalp she sends for the barber instead of coming to him, barbers here declare. Several barbers admitted that they had a well-established business as a result of the apparently widespread method of wealthy women and girls here who scorn the idea of visiting their shops. The barbers are equally strong against having the girls in their chairs, ar.d the suggestion that the custom of installing a manicurist in a men's barber shop is just a little too effeminate, was also heard several times in a partial canvass of the trade. “Barber shops are no place for women.” said Joe Reed, who runs a popular shop. Why, we even get tired of them looking in the window. We don't object if a mother brings her children, but that's enough. “Those manicurists have business here, but manicurists as a class are too darned good-looking and it would -he better for us if they had their own ftshop next door.
