CITY OFFICIALS COOPERATE Campaign Will End With ‘No Fire, No Accident Week,' Oct. 9 to 16. Fiivs were outlawed in Indianauolii toe ay. The Chamber of Commerce launched a ,two-week fire prevention campaign as part of a National drive. The .campaign will end with a “No Fire, tjio Accident Week,” Oct. 9-16. Grier *l. Shotwell is chairman of a special:committee for that week. Letters on-fire prevention were sent today to clut,s and other organizations. Indianapolis had 2.500 serious accidents ,ln 1921. During the week of Oct. 9-15 there were sixty-seven accidents. fires occured during this period. The Cumber of Commerce committee on fire prevention is composed of Frank Jordan, chairman: Chief J. J. O'Brien of the Indianapolis fire force, and Chief Jacob E. Rudel of the prevention division of the fire forcy. k j Lays Down, Rules, p This ,'ommittee today announced the following rules to help prevent fires: ) Before; starting fires for the winter, give careful attention to chimneys and Sne'i. Kerosene or gasoline is a dangerous assistant' when starting a fire in a Etove or’furnace. Oily mops or rags should be kept in metal containers. Electric lighting and heating apparatus should be installed carefully and inspected, frequently. Careful attention should he given to the removal of all rubbish from attics, cellars and cupboards. Lighted matches, cigar or cigarette butts should be properly disposed of. *• Hot water, not fire, should be used to thaw frozen water pipes. Attention was called to the danger of wooden shingle roofs.

The meeting, provided for in the August 15 strike settlement, will name a joint committee to investigate the coal industry generally, also a joint committee to formulate methods for negotiating anew wage scale to be effective when the present agreement expires. The Indiana Statfc Conference of Charities and Corrections will open in Fouth Bend Saturday, Oct. 7, and continue until Monday night. The Rabbi Morris M. BROOKVTLLE, Pa., Oct. ‘. —Angered because a snake had stolen their honey, a swarm of bees took revenge t on two fox hounds owned by David r. Redfield of Pleasantville, and stung ; them to death. The dogs, both full bloods, were chained at their kennel. > Members of the Redfield family and 1 their neighbors tried to drive the bees out, but were worsted in the * fight. Both the dogs died within ftf- , teen minutes after the attack, suffermg terribly.

Feuerlicht Reviews Struggle of Jews Throughout History. Observance of Tom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement at the synagogue of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation yesterday, was marked by exceptional attendance. Rabbi Morris M. Feuerlicht delivered a sermon in which he called upon his congregation for greater observance of religious customs. Rabbi Feuerlicht pointed to the early observance of Tom Kippur and cited the early struggle of the Jews for existence of their persecution and ultimate triumph over difficulties. Yom Kippur had its foundation in Babylonia exile and has since been handed down from generation to generation and is rigidly observed in every comer of the world inhabited by Jews. Though the observance by the Indiana Hebrew Congregation was not as rigid as by the Orthodox Jews, full significane was attached to the observance. DEFEND HARDING ADMINISTRATION Moses, Watson and Groninger Address G. 0. P. Gathering at Tomlinson Hall. “Stand by President Harding” was the basis of the appeal to Marion County Republicans made by Senator George H. Moses of New Hampshire and James E. Vas ton, and Taylor E. Gronninger, corporation counsel at the opening of the local Republican campaign at Tomlinson Hall, Saturday night. All three speakers insisted that a Republican Congress was necessary in order to uphold the hands of the President and said that the election of Democrats to the Senate and House of Representatives would'weaken the national administration. Mrs. Allen T. Fleming acted as permanent chairman of the meeting. Mayor Shank sent a telegram from New Albany regretting his inability to be present. PYTHIANS MEET Indiana Grand Lodge Convenes Tuesday—l,ooo Persons Expected. Indiana Grand Lodge, Knights of Pythias will open its annual two-day convention at 10 a. m. Tuesday in Pythian Hall. More than 1,000 are expected. The annual convention and drill of the Indiana brigade, Uniform Rank, Knights of Pythias, was arranged for today. Pythian Sisters will hold their convention Thursday and Friday. Business, including the election of officers, will occupy Tuesday’s sessions. A memorial service will be held for Rob&ndert A. Brown, past grand chancellor and grand keeper of records and seal.

Cross declared that the automobile foot is caused by the driver holding the foot for long periods on the pedals. This causes a lesion usually located at the second toe.
FIGHT PROHIBITION LAWS NEW YORK, Oct. 2.—Theater actors and actresses will give a public performance at the Apollo Theater to raise money to fight prohibition. This is the first time, according to Daniel Frohman, chairman of the theatrical committee of the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment, that artists have lent their services to such a “public movement.”
