FOWL Os conditions arising from outgrowth of the city sewer system those in Irvington and north of Fall Creek probaDiy are the worst, city officials say. All territory north of Fall Creek and east of Northwesten Ave. empties sewage into a 24-inch pipe running from Boulevard PI. to Thirty-Eighth St., along the north bank of the creek. The flow Is so great the two-foot line is filled practically all the time, raw sewage flowing over dams in catch basins directly into the creek at a number of points. Curves Hamper Flow As bridges have been built during the past twenty-five or thirty years, the course and grade of the sewer has been changed, further hampering operation, because the sewage will not few properly around tortuous curves and where the grade is not uniform. Another sewer must he laid parallelthis one, at hundreds of thousands of dollars cost, according to City Engineer John L. Elliott. This sewer goes under Fall Creek diagonally from Illinois St., to Capitol Ave. According to Charles H. Hurd, consulting engineer for the sanitary board, the pipe is broken in several places and sewage discharges directly lnto the creek instead of into the "White River interceptor at Boulevard Place. Two Lines Under Creek The White River interceptor starts at Northwestern Ave. and Fall Creek, on the north side, runs in two twenty-four-inch lines east to Boulevard PI., where it crosses under the creek and is joined by the Fall Creek Interceptor, the old State ditch and other important branches. M< anderJng northwest the big line crosses the canal at Fifteenth St., goes on through the Indianapolis Water Company’s filtration plant, past the city hospital to Caldwell St., thence south to Michigan St., and follows the east shore of Washington Ave., east in the avenue to Blackford St., thence south to McCarty and east to the point where it goes into the main drain into which most of the trunk sewers finally empty.
