BASEBALL COMMENT, GOSSIP Hendricks Enthuses Over Fine Play of Two Tribe Rookies—lndians Beat Senators and Go West —Other League Chatter. I—- ’ Bu EDDIt ABB
Jack Hendricks Is enthusiastic over the two Tribe rookies. Pitcher Fitzsimmons and Outfielder Hamel, and considers the former Central Leaguers very “hot” prospects. That was the opinion the Indian pilot expressed after the Columbus series which closed Thursday. Fitz was used on the mound twice, once against Toledo and once against the Senators, and he not only won his games but he displayed the earmarks of a youngster who has learned his hurling lessons early. As for Hamel, Hendricks says this youthful fly chaser has everything and if his batting holds up he is sure to make good. He is death on fly balls, fast as a streak and possesses a fine throwing arm. He hit well enough in the. Toledo and Columbus series, but Hendricks is not ready to pass final judgement on his batting prowess until he has faced more Class AA pitching. Both Fitz and Hamel will be used regularly on the Western trip. The introduction of young blood already has caused a few of the Indian veterans to hustle more than was their habit before the Muskegon boys joined the team. The Indians were on their way to Kansas City today where they will open their farewell western jaunt with the Blues Saturday. Jess Petty twirled the Tribesmen to a 9-to-l victory in the wind-up game at ColumHe gave up only four hits. This ySkthpaw has tossed some great ball and he doubtless will be a mainstay next season. The Hendricksmen pounded the ball hard Thursday and collected fifteen hits. Batting averages are coming up again. Windy Lotshaw, club trainer, was given a chance to perform in the ninth. He was sent up to bat for Furcell and he sacrificed. Windy is a grandfather, but he still has youthful ways. The old boy helped the Indians win the pennant in 1917. Tom Whelan, Tribe utility man, baa gained the consent of the club to leave before the season closes if he obtains a football coaching position. Hoosier colleges and high schools in need of coaching help would do well to look up Whelan’s record. He was a brilliant end at both Dartmouth and Georgetown in his college days and received allAmerican mention. When Tom used to smash interference, it rattled and scattered. He hit like a ton. The Yankees were still leading the

Made for Hard Wear — Sell loss Two-Trouser Boys’ Suits $lO .95 and $ 12 50 The first thing we sought was boys’ suits that would stand up under hard wear. Only all-wool fabrics, good linings, sturdy stitches would do. And then the styles must be good and the patterns new. The last thing we did was price these suits to give unusual value—and at $10.95 and $12.50 we believe them unmatchable. Os course, there are two pairs of full-lined and taped trousers with each suit.
New Caps, $ J.OO The patterns match the new suits and they are in the styles that catch the boy’s fancy. Well made of good woolens. Unusual caps for SI.OO.

American League flag race by a game and one-half this morning. They downed the White Sox Thursday with Joe Bush and Babe Ruth delivering the feature work. Bush hung up his twenty-fourth victory of the season and Ruth slammed out his thirtysecond home run. Joe gave the Sox only four hits. Young Leverette did the hurling for Chicago. The Browns trimmed the Red Sox by coming from behind. Pat Collins, subbing for Sisler at first bast, got three hits. Burns hit a homer Tor Boston in the third. Saturday will be a big day in the Mound City. Yankees and Browns are to tangle in the first battle of a three-game series. The outcome is expected to decide the pennant. Stuffy Mclnnls cracked a circuit drive in the eighth and Cleveland beat Washington. Beals Becker increased his consecutive game hitting to thirty-four in the K. C.-Saints game Thursday. The Blues beat the leaders. In the second Brewer-Miller game Thursday the Brewers got sixteen hits off Thormahlen, but lost. The Giants had a hard day of it. but finally managed to annex their sixth straight victory, downing the Cubs. Nine pitchers were used, five by the Giants. Reb Russell helped the Pirates bump the Braves. He cleaned the bases with a double.

eliminated. “Hitherto there has been a good bit of bickering and some accidents due to the leniency in the interpretation and enforcement of that rule.” Coach Page attended the meeting of the directors of the Western Conference and upon his return he was emphatic in his support of their decisions. The rule against clipping has been interpreted to mean that all clipping is to be abolished except against the player carrying the ball.
