The caura of poor reception, Potter learned, was the mountain range intervening between Fullerton and Riverside. SPEAKING AUTO TALKS BEAU 111 Air of Mystery Surrounds Conversationally Inclined Car. “The talking Studebaker," as it I came to be known, was undoubtedly j among the most interesting of all j State fair week exhibits. From the; first day of the exhibit to the closing minute Saturday a large crowd con j stantly surrounded the car anil tried | to solve the mystery of the answers j which instantaneously came, apparenty from nowhere, in reply to any questions asked by spectators. The talking car was on exhibit at the salesroom of the A. W. Buck Company, distributors for the Studehaker, fair week. The automobile was jacked up from the floor, giving a clear view into and under it. No wires radiate from it and yet it answers questions in a way most startling and spooky to unlookers. “What is my name?" asked a wellknown automobile man as he stood in front of the car one evening last week. And back from the inner works of the machine came th*> sound of a voice giving the name properly and so quickly as to startle the questioner. However, this is a question the car does not guarantee to answer to all persons, but in regard to itself it certainly is well posted and can give any details about its history or specifications. “What is the price of this car?" one interested motorist asked. “SIOOO delivered to your front door in Indianapolis," the car answered. "What mileage will it give on a gallon of gasoline?" was the next question propounded. "Fifteen miles." answered the Big Six sport model without hesitation. "What is the bore and stroke of your cylinders and how many of them have you?" interjected another by- j slander. "Six cylinders of 3*4 inch bore and j r, inch stroke." was the answer. “How about your wheelbase?” came the next question. “127 inches.” retorted the conver sationally inclined motor car. The mystery is considerably I heightened by the fact that no wires j extend from the rnachinq no devices can be detected anywhere about it, , and no person can be found anywhere about who can he suspected of doing the talking on behalf of the automobile. It is doubtful if there has been a more novel automobile display made in Indianapolis at any time. TIRE SERVICE VITAL FACTOR Motorists Appreciate Rapid Service When in Trouble, Dealer Say's. were able to reach out to the north and east with ease. Now, at his Antelope Valley station, near Potter finds the signals from Riverside and San Diego come in much stronger than other stations he had heard at Fullerton. The reason for this, he believes, is the natural passage allowed wireless waves by Cajon Pass. “This,” he says "allows an ethe-

)an, manager of the company. “We have perfected a service which relieves the minds of our customers from all worries of this kind.” Manager Morlan said. "Our free tire service has been a boon to our customers and one in which we take the utmost pride at all times. Our fleet of service trucks is prepared to go anywhere at any time to the relief of motorists. When anew tire is to be delievered we make no limitation as to the distance we go or the time of day or night. The unfortunate motorist'who is caught with a worn out tire anywhere may rest assured that lie will receive from us the speediest and highest grade possible in ttie delivery of anew casing. This service has proved popular in the extreme with motorists who have found themselves out on the road dressed in the best of clothes and then have experienced a blowout. Transient trade receives our very best attention. To give this service has been one of our most important aims and rules. It is, in our mind, applying the square deal to the motoring world. At some time or another practically every car owner takes a long trip and gets well out of the beaten tracks usually followed by him. This takes him away from customary business connections. It is only fair that these tourists should be cared for properly and given the same service they would receive at home. Asa result of this policy we have made a host of friends all over tiie country, for Indianapolis seems

R. H. MORLAN. tc draw travelers from all parts of the United States. “In the automobile industry service it a particularly valuable factor and this holds true with more than usual force in the tire branch of the industry. The best proof of the success cf our metyhandislng methods is the long list of satisfied customers we have made.” “Ixing ago we njade up our minds that our telephone number Circle 3000 would come to mean courteous treatment and the very highest grade of service in the minds of the motoring public.” NEWS IS WHISTLED Signal System Used by Canary Island Natives. Mr. Bradshaw also has occupied an important position in national building material organization work, having served three terms as president of the National Builders' Supply Association, of which organization lie is still a director.
