Sept. 7 —Mexlcaji authorities have received a decree signed by President Obregori providing that Mexican laborers cannot leave this country for work in the United Staten unless employers sign a contract to pay the Mexicans as much as other workers receive and deposit a sum sufficient to pay their j fara back to Mexico, plus 50 per cent for sustenance. PURDUE GETSES fICRESFOR FIELD Ade and Ross Announce Gift at Alumni Banquet for Eiliott. Announcement of a gift of sixtyfive acres of land to Purdue University by George Ade and David E. Ross, alumni, was made last right at a banquet given by the Indianapolis Alumni Association in honor of Dr. Edward C. Elliott, the new president of the institution. The land lies northwest of the campus and was purchased at a cost of $39,000. The gift will be contingent on an agreement that the university erect a stadium, it was said. The rest of the ground will be laid out for a playground for the whole student body. Mr. Ade was ill and unable to attend, but his speech was read. Dr. Edward C. Elliott, new president, for seven years chancellor of the University of Montana, outlined his policy. “The students of Purdue will be expected to do old-fashioned, serious studying. The physical welfare of students will not be neglected, however. real crisis faces every college now, the solution of collegiate and intercollegiate athletics. I am a firm believer in college athletics, b.ut I can't lend aid to any sport that makes a sport of college. The teams at Purdue must be of professional students and amateur athletes, and not professional athletes and amateur students." Dr. Elliott declared.
