Construction on the now Shortridge High School at Thirty-Fourth and Meridian Sts. probably will be started within a year, according to Charles Zj. Barry, president of the school board. The work now before the committee includes the following: Construction of anew eight-room building adjoining No. 30, Miley Ave. and Washington St.; new eight-room building adjoining No. 62. Tenth and Wallace Sts.: new sixteen-room building at Thirtieth St. and College Ave., to be known as No. 76; anew eight-room building adjoining No. 70, Central Ave. and Forty-Sixth St.; anew eight-room building adjoining No. 38, Winter and Bloyd Aves.: an eight-room addition to No. 6". at 3616 W. Walnut St.; the Potter Fresh Air School of four classrooms on the E. Tenth St. side of the Technical High School grounds. URBAN IS MARSHAL Plans .Made For Floral Parade October 7. C. C. Urban will be chief marshal for the floral tournament and parade of the Marion County Odd Fellows and Kebekah Association to be held Oct. 7, according to present plans. Twenty assistant marshals have been selected, A. M. Grant, chairman of the committee on arrangements, stated. The parade will form at Meridian St. and Fall Creek. The line of march will be south on Meridian to the Circle. Grant has asked 3,000 automobiles and 100 floats -be decorated for the event. KAHLE POST PICNICS Base Hospital 32 Members Hold Reunion at Turner Park. Seventy members of the Edward Kahle Post of the Amercian Legion, composed of members of Base Hospital 62. held a reunion at Turner Park yesterday evening. Paul R. Matthews, post commander, was in charge, assisted by Vernon Sheller. Thomas McHugh. Jack Carroll. J. H. Langan. Roy Rich, Clifford Lounsbury and John J. Griffith. NEW CAR ENTERS The latest car to enter the State Fair Auto Show is the Star. One of the new Durant products, is is said to be one of the likeliest contenders for trade in the “small and light car class.’’ It has created on end of discussion and will be seen in Indianapolis for the first time during showweek. Boore-Patterson handle it. B. M. Wylie, a former president of the Auto Trade Association, will again enter the lists as a dealer. “Doc” Wylie as the men of the old row know him. is to handle the Auburn which he will have on display at the show.

MEET AT TELL CITY Third District Veterans and Auxiliaries to Gather Tomorrow. Beginning tomorrow afternoon, a two-day convention of the Third Indiana district of the American Legion and auxiliary will be held at Tell City. Claude E. Gregg of Vincennes, State commander of the legion, will make the opening address. Mrs. Edna M. Barcus of Indianapolis, department president of the auxiliary, and Frank Henley of Indianapolis, department adjutant of the legion, will speak during the convention. MYSTERY ATTENDS mrajN in Rollie Smith, 3820 E. ThirtySecond St., Is Victim of Prowlers. Detectives today were investigating a mysterious attack made on Rollie Smith, 3820 E. Thirty-Second St., last night. A prowler was heard near Smith’s home. Floyd Smith, armed with a gun, went out the rear door, while Rollie went out the front way. As he did so three shots were fired and Rollie was struck on the head with a heavy object. Rollie told police he knew- of no reason for the attack. Several ijveekp ago he was shot through the arm. Four men followed him home Saturday night. He said that the two who attacked him last night were the same as those who followed him Saturday night. WILL CONTEST RATE Indiana manufacturers will send representatives to Chicago Sept. 12 to contest the proposed reduction of freight rates asked by the Southern Railroad Company from New York City piers to the west coast.
