LOVE AFFAIR IS PROBED BACK OE MINEraiBOER Dynamite Under Driver’s Seat of Car Explodes, Killing Sullivan Man. By Time* Special SULLIVAN, Ind., Aug. 7.—Working on the theory that an affair with a married woman was behind the killing of John Everhart. 35, a miner, who was fatally injured by an explosion of dynamite placed beneath the driver’s seat of his car Sunday, authorities today were making an investigation of the case. Elmer Hale, 30. shot firer. was arrested and is held by police. A month ago Everhart was fined on charge of having been intimate with the wife of Hale. The explosion occurred when Everhart attempted to start his car at the Peerless mine four miles northeast of here, the starter wire having been connected with the dynamite and the cap taken off the gasoline tank. 1 Hale told the authorities he spent Saturday night with his wife at the home of her parents, but she denied this. HARD ON SQUIRRELS Sentry Starts Excitement Shooting Animals for Mess. By Times Special STAUNTON, Ind., Aug. 7.—Squirrels have been excluded from the list of combatants of the Staunton front, but for a day or two they led a precarious life. Five shots were heard in rapid succession from a woods at the far end of one of the lines. After a few seconds five more shots were fired. A squad was sent to relieve the hardpressed sentry. At short intervals there would come the sound of shots and then silence. Finally, the relief squad returned to headquarters with the information that a sentry had been attempting to provide squirrels for the entire company mess. When stopped he had succeeded in killing two and was stalking a tree in which he said he had three more spotted. AUTOMOBILES IMPROVED Rhow at State Fair Will Demonstrate New Uses. NAME GUARDIAN FOR DRUNK Step Taken to Protect Inheritance From Bootlegger Acquaintance. AKRON, Ohio —A vivid reminder of pre-Volsteadian days was noted in Probate Court here a few days ago, when Judge L. D. Slusser appointed a guardian for a drunkard for the purpose of preventing him from squandering an inheritance aggregating several thuosand dollars. It was stated that the Inebriated heir became acquainted with a bootlegger who learned of the inheritance. WOMAN DESPONDENT Drinks lodine in Attempt to End Her Life. Summer-Spoiled Skin Removed by Absorption - -- As nndne summer exposure usually •cavee an undesirable surface of tan, redness or roughness, often freckles, too, the s.usible thing to do is to remove such surface. There's nothing better for this than ordinary mercolized wax, which actually absorbs an unwholesome comfilexion. The thin layer of surface skin s itself absorbed, gently, gradually, so there’s no Inconvenience, no detention indoors. Spread the wax lightly over the entire face at bedtime and take it off in the morning with warm water. If yon will get one ounce of mercolized wax at the drug store, use It for a week or so, you may expect marked improvement daily. When the underlying skin is wholly in view your complexion will he a marvel of spotless purity and beauHfal whiteness Advertisement.

‘Nanook of the North ’ Proves Twin Beds Unknown to Eskimos Bv WALTER D. HICKiIAS. Twin beds are an unheard of article in Eskimo land. Nanook, a mighty Eskimo hunter; Nyla. a young wife, and other mem bers of the family sleep on a natural bed of snow over which are spread the skins of polar bears and seals. , In Eskimo land it is the family bed and not twin beds. This we learn In a movie actually taken by Robert J. Flaherty, who was the leader of five of Sir William McKenzie's expeditions into the upper east coast of Hudson Bay and extreme Labrador, known as the Ungava Peninsula. “Nanook of the North” is more than a movie. It is an actual visible chapter from the book of life of the strange Eskimo. This movie is as entertainng as any picture Douglas Fairbanks or Charlie Chaplin has ever made. There is no acting in thp Nonook movie. It shews the Eskimo “at home.” I do not hesitate in stating that “Nanook of the North" is a movie which every citizen of the United States should see. It is educational and highly entertaining. What more can be asked of a theater? “Nanook of the North” might be considered a movie travelogue by some. To me.it is a wonderful chapter from the daily life of the Eskimo. Not to be missed at the Circle this week by those who are longing for the better things on the screen.

A Strange Heroine Is N'yla Nyla, known in Eskima language as "the smiling one,” is the strangest movie heroine ever reflected on the screen. She has never seen a six teen-story building, let alone a telephone or gas stove. She belongs to no sewing circle because sewing . Ircles do not exist in her country. Every j morning she chews Nanook’s boots to | take the icy stiffness out of them. It would indeed be a tempting eye-opener j before breakfast, this boot-chewing. I was most interested when Nanook went hunting for seals and walrus. This is great sport to see, but the icy I water is the. Eskimo’s kitenenette. j They live on seal meat. The method 1 of catching a seal is as hair-raising as Sherlock Holmes getting on the trail of a criminal. At the Circle all week. •I- -I- -IRodolph Turns Irish Can you imagine Rodolph Valentino playing the role of an Irish lover with a brogue? ( seeing isn't believing. BThe hero of “The Sheik” has such a role in a movie Murray 1s the other featured member of the cast. It is a Universal promust have been made years ago before Mae MurMAT MURRAY. advanced a great deal in her movie work since "The Dflicious Little Devil” was made. Valentino hasn’t much to do but wear a dress suit and then muss it up in a fight. ft The sub-titles are supposed to be full of Irish wit, but instead they are hopelessly dull. Such pictures as this one makes m elong for the winter months. I probably again will be accused of being “hard boiled’’ in not gushing over this picture. Have your own idea. I think It is hopeless. At the Ohio all week. -I- -I- -IWeep and Then Weep Some More If you have tears prepare to shed ’em now. When preparing to see “Where Is My Wandering Bow Tonight?” be sure to include a half-dozen handkerchiefs along with your carfare and admission price. Am sure you will need ’em. The screen “reformers" may rave over this picture because of its “moral

lesslon.” It Is hopelessly dull and poorly done. The “uplift” movement of the screen will not be advanced by “Where Is My Wandering Boy Tonight?” The screen needs good entertaining stories, not sloppy melodramatic bunk. Can you. In your wildest moments, ; imagine a real mother running down a I railroad track, waving her arm Iranj tically because her only boy is riding jto the city on the train? Anyway, that is what the director has a mother do in “Where Is My Wandering Boy Tonight.” Her boy was not going to war, he was merely going to the city, i Cullen Landis, a chap who has shown real promise when properly cast, has the role of the wandering boy. He struggles through this melodramatic and inconsistent mess like a school boy. Ruth Patsy Miller Is In the cast. “Where Is My Wandering Boy Tonight?” belongs to the dark age of the movie. It is the featured offering at the Apollo this week. -I- -I- + Love Fights For Love When a girl Is really In love, she will fight to save the man she loves. She might be, saving him only for herself but she fights just the same. That seems to be the theory behind a rather disconnected movie story called, "Lights of the Desert." Shirley Mason Is the featured player but the player who gets the laughs Is a woman who wears overalls and cusses in plain English. Miss Mason looks sweet most of the time except when she is fighting for her hero. While she Is fighting for him she doesn’t know that she loves him but she finds It out before you leave the Isis, where the picture Is being shown this week. The bill includes a Chaplin movie, “Triple Trouble.” I I- ICharlie Is With Us Again Charlie Ray’s movie shadow is being reflected this week on the screen at Mister Smith’s. The vehicle is called "The Barnstormer" and in this movie Charlie thinks he has a chance of becoming another Richard Mansfield. He is cast as Joel, a farmer lad, who longs to become an actor. It Is much more dramatic to be a stage lover than a farm hand pitching hay on a hot summer day. Associated with Ray in this movie are Wilfred Lucas, George Nicholas, Charlotte Pierce and others. -I- -I- -IFamum Does Well William Fox need make no apology for filming "A Stage Romance.’’ The movie story is good because It is taken from Dumas and concerns epi-

BETTER DOLLS DEMANDED “Babies” Must Have Blue Eyes and be Able to Talk. The demand for realism is not limited to novel readers and short stockinged flappers, according to T. P. Brodeur of the Brodeur Doll Shop. The very youngest generation, particularly the feminine part ,of it, are loud In their demands for the most realistic creations in the doll line — blue-eyed, short haired, chubby faced baby dolls that squeak “mamma” in a voice that only differs from the real thing in that it lacks volume. Besides supplying the demand of American youngsters for dolls that are as much like babies as possible, American doll manufacturers are seeking to make their product as nearly Indestructible as they can be made.
