BUSINESS BARS BOTEFFECTIVE Conditions in Office Supply Line Convince Hiller 1922 Is Good Year. With all the disturbances to which industrial America is subject today business forges right ahead, according to R. C. Hiller, head of the Hiller Office Supply Company. Mr. Hiller said his conclusions are based upon observations in his own business, which is an excellent barometer. "Just let business fall off and factories and business houses begin to cut down on their purchases of filing devices and office equipment of various other kinds. With improved conditions up goes the demand for our products. "The steady call for office equip- ! ment convinces one our business situation is sound, in spite of the hard knocks it is being subjected to. We should find we have enjoyed a good business year In 1922, when the results are posted. Demand for filing devices and loose-leaf equipment has shown a decided Increase and this indicates to rny mind that business houses are in the first phase of actual return to business on a normal scale. "Office equipment prices have shown almost no change recently, convincing me the low level in our line has been reached at last. There has been some stiffening of the market in some cases and it has been difficult to obtain some merchandise. Os course, this means but one thing, that the demand for them is steadily increasing. "During the last few years the legitimate dealer has come into his own, and has established a place for himself which he well deserves. By the word legitimate I mean supply dealers with a permanent location and ability to give real service to customers. "The day is passing when some fly-by-night' merchandise peddler can go into an office and unload a lot of second quality goods cn a firm by making what appears to be an attractive price. Customers have learned that, after all, the best values and the best results are obtained through dealing with old, established concerns, with some sense of responsibility, an honest desire to give satisfaction and to establish a reputation for honesty and integrity in their dealings. "Our new catalog is just out and we feel that it is the most complete and comprehensive we ever have issued. It always has been our ambition to give real values and real service to our clientele, and the long list of repeat orders we receive from satisfied customers Is proof in our minds that we have succeeded. BAGGAGE IS SPECIALTY Transfer, Storage, Light and Heavy Hauling Done by Firm. PUBLIC BHDS CLEAN!* SHOP Propaganda for Sanitation Bears Fruit, Says Walrus Fountain Dealer. Public acceptance of and demand for paper cups, towels, spoons, dishes, napkins and similar articles has become so universal it is hard for manufacturers and dealers to meet, said J. R. Sentney, 222 South Meridian St., local distributor for Walrus soda fountains and various kinds of sanitary equipment. The constant propaganda of health authorities for better sanitation in every direction is bearing fruit in a public state of mind which will not accept many insanitary practices which only a few years ago were considered the common order of things. ‘For years I have noticed that if the public demands anything with * sufficient intensity and persistence it will get it,” said Mr. Sentney. “Less than a generation ago the public knew of no soda fountain equipment other than the ornate, crude, unsatisfactory equipment of that day, a type which would not he permitted by health authorities now. These old fountains were dirty for the very simple reason their construction invited dirt to accumulate. Asa matter of fact they actually constituted, in many Instances, a menace to public health. “Then came a period of development and improvement which reached a climax in the perfection of the Walrus fountain, the only leak- , proof fountain on the market so fur as I can determine. It has many Improvements over other and less scientifically designed makes. For instance all plumbing is connected when the fountain is delivered, which makes it unnecessary to hire a plumber, as usually Is the case. This saves the purchaser a lot of money in some instances and assures him the work will be done by the highest | grade of experts. "The one-piece drainboard of the Walrus, which makes It impossible j for dirt to collect in cracks, there be I ing none, Is another splendid and of- ! fectlve feature of the Walrus. This i hoard Is built like a cord tire, layer \ upon layer of material cemented to- ( gether in such a way as to make It leak-proof and free from possibility of warping. "The Walrus has 50 per cent more refrigeration than usually is found, a minimum of ice being required to keep it cold. Sliding doors on Ice cream compartments save time and are much more convenient than lifting lids. This feature is patented. "Just as it demands sanitary paper receptacles the public indorses the modern sanitary fountain by patronizing them In Increasing numbers." BRICK BUILDING RECORDS BROKEN interstate Clay Products Company, One of Newer Successful Organizations. More brick are being piled on top of each other into beautiful, useful, time-resisting structures In Indianapolis this year than ever before. All building records have been shattered, but the increase in demand for clay products is keeping ahead of the general level, according to men In the industry. The Interstate Clay Products Company, 1124 Hume-Mansur building, is one of the newer and eminently successful organizations which is meet-. ing the demand. It has modern of fiee and display rooms here. This aggressive concern also has a branch sales office in South Bend. It Was found necessary to open it to better afford prompt and efficient service to many customers in the j northern part of the State*. Thds move was in line with the general "personal service” policy of the company. Because of strict adherence to this principle, and the splendid output of the several brick and clay plants whose products It distributes j throughout the State, a rapidly ex-1 panding business has been built up. W. A. Shoemaker, manager, is authority for the statement the firm’s business is heavier this year than ever. Despite the unusual demand the company has, generally speaking, been able to give prompt service to It customers. Among large local projects for which the Interstate Clay Products Company Is furnishing materlls is the million dollar Indianapolis Athletic Club building. SERVICE FACTOR PRINTERS ASSET Prompt Delivery Often as Important as Good Quality of Product. Just as Independent retail grocers of today are turning to service to offset the advantages gained by cash-and-carry chain stores the printer of tomorrow must turn to service as well as quality to hold his established trade in the opinion of many. To get a Job of printing done when it is promised usually means dollars and cents to the customer because In these hustling days he has timed other factors In sales campaigns to dovetail into the delivery of his forms lor advertising matter. Thus, buyers of printing are discovering that price alone does not mean good printing and results. After a spasm of shopping about as a result of after-the-war reaction, he is turning to the printer | who gives him prompt delivery and other phases of service as well as quality and right prices. The Whitaker Press, Inc., Liberty building, 107 S. Capitol Ave., is a forward looking printing firm which pays particular attention to service, j The Whitaker Press. Inc., was established in 1913 by B. F. Whitaker, president and manager. E. S. Whitaker is secretary-treasurer. PROFIT IN BEES More Money In One Hive Than in Acre of Corn, Official Says. Farmers in some localities in Indiana claim there is greater profit in one hive of bees well kept than in an acre of land planted to corn, and the former occasions less labor, said Frank N. Wallace, entomologist for | the State conservation department, | in a report to the conservation com- ! mission. '■ Beekeeping in Indiana is increasing j at a remarkable rate and the State ! this year is producing a large crop |of honey which now Is selling for j 25 to 40 cents a pound, he said.
